Luton – Time To Make That Step Up For This Player

In a matter of days, memories of the summer will be discarded as the Hatters support welcome the start of the 2021/2022 season.

Hopefully, there will be no more lock downs and the support can generate the atmosphere that makes Kenilworth Road special, all season.

Earlier today, we published an article – problems-problems-nothing-but-problems – concentrating on whom might make the starting XI for the season opener, at Kenilworth Road, against Peterborough United.

This article is along similar lines but concentrates on just one player – Harry Cornick.

Last season, Cornick made 28 Championship starts but only hit the net on 1 occasion, against Bristol City, at Ashton Gate, in late April.

Some might say that goals per game ratio is poor for such a talented player, but goals were hard to come by for everyone last season.

In pre-season, Cornick has looked sharp and managed to get on the scoresheet, but will this improvement guarantee him a starting place on a regular basis this season?

With so many new arrivals, at Kenilworth Road, the pressure is on those that are already at the club to take a step up when it comes to performance levels.

Is Cornick somebody that can do that?

My view is that if Cornick is given the chance to perform, he can establish himself in the side and if he receives the service he needs, his pace will ensure he gets on the scoresheet far more often this season.

But is that a view you concur with, or do you hold different views?

Please feel free to have your say on the subject matter in the comment facility beneath this article.

I’m really not sure where cornick is at the moment. He looks hungry an ready. But now there is so much competition for a front place it may take a few weeks to sort out who our starting 11 will be or possibly depending on the opposition as to how we line up

Last season NJ started with corrnick more than I felt he should have but this season is a clean slate for everyone so he stands as much chance as any one ,it was his goal scoring record last season if he could add a few more goals in his game NJ will play him as he likes him . It all comes down to which system he plays this season .

I hoped awhile back that Cornick would develop better composure in front of goal, but it hasn’t happened. I think his best role is as a late game sub where his excellent pace and decent crossing/dribbling ability would be a big advantage.

At the Championship level, you can’t afford to be so wasteful with chances. Cornick is one of the players i’d trust least with a 1 on 1 chance – his lack of confidence leads to hesitation and probably hitting it straight at the keeper.

Hi all, personally I think harry will be like pelly, a useful squad member, but will have to take his chance when picked due to competition for places…..this should be a good incentive to push on a this level…..heard alan adair is improving at the moment, so excellent news…..
