Luton – Problems, Problems Nothing But Problems

Okay, the raft of friendly fixtures are now over, this Saturday the real action starts when Luton welcome Peterborough United to Kenilworth Road.

On paper, Luton Town must be the favourites to beat a Posh side that only climbed out of League One last season, but here at Vital Luton Town we have learned to take nothing for granted.

The idea for the friendly fixture schedule Luton undertook would have been to get the squad match fit and integrate the eight new arrivals from the summer squad revamp.

But nothing is never as easy as it seems, as the Brighton fixture, on Saturday, showed.

These pandemic driven times, allied with the ongoing ‘pingdemic’ means nothing should be taken for granted.

We should be at the stage where we more-or-less know what the starting XI will be, against Peterborough, but I must admit that I am none the wiser when it comes to the complete starting XI.

In fact, I am a little perplexed.

But what are your feelings on the starting XI, on Saturday, who do you feel has done enough, in pre-season, to warrant a start?

Please feel free to have your say in the comment facility beneath this article and we will see if there is a common theme.

Morning MD, glad everything went well on Friday and the happy couple all my best for the future. Well it seems it’s the back line at the moment that is having problems when it’s only one player missing from last season , I feel that with what is going on in the country I think we are not alone in wondering what is the best starting lineup, just hope they are all back soon . Yo be honest I wouldn’t what say how will start on Saturday hopefully NJ will have a better idea by Friday . Coyh

Morning mh, I’ll have a go sluga bree Burke Bradley naismith. Midfield Campbell lansbury rea pelly. Forward adebayo Fred. But it’s by no means certain as to who is pinged

  • Phil Bassill says:

Surely Jordan Clark must start if he is available.

    • Chris winter says:

Hi Phil, I agree he could start as he’s been outstanding in preseason. But so had Fred but if we continue with 2 up front it was to close to call an what I or anyone else thinks means nothing nj sees the day to day work and its only guessing on our part

  • NM says:

    A 3-5-2-1 for me.

    GK Sluga
    LWB Jordan Clark
    CB – Naismith
    CB – Bradley
    CB – Lockyer
    RWB Bree
    DM – Campbell
    DM – Lansbury
    AM – Mendes-Gomes
    AM – Onyedinma
    F – Adebayo

It should play flexible, with both our WB’s being good on the ball as well as solid defenders. Guys like Pelly, Cornick, Morrell woul be excellent options to change things up from the bench.

Such an over-achievement last season – excited with the new influx of talent (hope we can get Sluga extended).

  • Derk86 says:

Very similar to NM for me but a slight tweak:

    GK Sluga
    LWB Clark
    CB – Burke
    CB – Bradley
    CB – Lockyer
    RWB Bree
    DM – Naismith
    DM – Lansbury / Campbell
    AM – Mendes-Gomes
    AM – Onyedinma
    F – Adebayo

Just a bit of balance between the old and new in the front 5, instead of 4 out of the 5 making their competitive debut. Whatever way you look at it, it definitely appears to be a step up in quality this season.
