With the 2023/2024 season drawing to a close, the relegation battle is finally starting to take shape.

Despite being deducted points, on two separate occasions, Everton’s win over their local rivals, Liverpool, allied with a victory they achieved at the weekend, against Nottingham Forest, appears to have guaranteed that the Toffees will be playing Premier League football next season.

Similarly Sheffield United, after losing at Manchester United, are staring at the drop knowing unless they beat Newcastle United, at St James Park, this weekend, they will be confirmed as an EFL Championship side next season.

Therefore, with two relegation places still available, it is a case of any two from the following three that will join Sheffield United in the EFL Championship for the 2024/2025 season – Burnley, Luton Town and Nottingham Forest, although the upcoming points deduction appeal Forest have launched may play a part in the relegation outcome.

So, with each team having FOUR games left to play, as shown below:

Burnley

• Manchester United (a)
• Newcastle United (h)
• Tottenham Hotspur (a)
• Nottingham Forest (h)

Luton Town

• Wolverhampton Wanderers (a)
• Everton (h)
• West Ham United (a)
• Fulham (h)

Nottingham Forest

• Manchester City (h)
• Sheffield United (a)
• Chelsea (h)
• Burnley (a)

Who do you reckon is doomed for the drop?

Before deciding, perhaps we should look at the recent form of the three clubs, looking back at the last six Premier Legue fixtures.

With 18 points available from those last six fixtures, the situation looks as thus:

• Burnley – 9 points
• Luton Town – 4 points
• Nottingham Forest – 6 points

Now, normally, 40 points is considered to be the safety target but, this season it could be as low as 34, so, taking a deep breath, who is your money on?

Who Will Be Relegated With Sheffield United?

Burnley and Luton Town!

nobody has an easy run in. fingers crossed that some players make it back, but please make sure they are fit. i wonder if supporters would be happy with trying some young fit players, or do you think its too risky. the fat lady is not singing just yet. COYH.

I don’t normally wish relegation on anybody, but Nottingham Forest have lost an awful lot of respect recently. Their behaviour has been terrible and it’d be ironic if the 2 points saved for “co-operating with the authorities” is what keeps them up.

To be fair, they clearly knew they’d blown the spending limits by a long way and just expected a fine. It’s not their fault that the FA/PL need to prove themselves as hard nuts in front of the government’s plan to introduce an independent football regulator.

I think the PL themselves will be hoping that the current bottom 3 are relegated as this would minimise the potential for legal action at the end of the season (and is what Gary Lineker has suggested).

Should it be Luton, we’d go down with a stack of cash in our back pocket and a decent chance of returning. Relegation for Forest might mean bankruptcy.

So many surprising results in the PL every week it’s impossible to predict. Just a matter of keeping the support going and hope their character wins through.
