Luton Town – Not Exactly What The Doctor Ordered

A draw is not what I wanted, expected, or hoped for; indeed, it leaves the Hatters in a perilous position with relegation starting to look like a stark reality.

Against Everton, last night, a side that are bang on form, Luton Town gave their all.

Despite being a goal down, courtesy of a penalty awarded by VAR, after a foul by Teden Mengi, the Hatters battled back to equalise through the returning to the starting XI, Elijah Adebayo.

But any attempts to force a winner were thwarted by a resolute Everton defence and some finishing that was wide of the mark.

Reflecting on just where we stand, we may now, courtesy of the point last night, stand level on points with Nottingham Forest but they now have a game in hand, can already relegated Sheffield United do the Hatters a huge favour this afternoon when the teams meet? I wouldn’t bank on it!

With two games to go, I believe it is essential that Luton Town win those two fixtures, against West Ham United (a) and Fulham (h), but would you bank on that happening when you take into consideration our second half of the season form?

But all, as they say, is not lost, if the battle to avoid the drop does go on to the last day of the 2023/2024 season, Nottingham Forest face a huge fixture away to another side dicing with relegation, Burnley.

Indeed, their penultimate fixture of the season sees them welcome a Chelsea side, to the City Ground, a side that despite having a hit and miss season are still in with a chance of achieving European football.

I can’t help thinking that the season still has a huge surprise in store for us all, all we can do is wait and see how it develops, but I’m not counting out Nottingham Forest being saved by a reduction in those four points they were docked, on appeal, now that would be a crying shame!

Whilst I can’t criticise the performance. I just think that the poor crossing and to often no body really in the box for a long period of the game until the last 20 mins cost us dearly. But all not quite lost yet.

agree with your comments chris. i was hoping that lokonga would show his skill, but he seems to have lost a little bit. burke seems to be everywhere, never stops. kaminski has been a joy to watch this season. all in all, its been a pleasure to see LUTON, playing against ,some of the best teams in the world. fingers still crossed. Shame but I think it’s gone now. However I thought Chong played a blinder. Interested to see what next years team looks like, lot’s of changes methinks.
