The Hatters now have seven games to secure their Premier League status and avoid a swift return to the EFL Championship.

After going so long without a win, just picking up 3 points out of the last 30 available and having to cope with an injury situation many consider to be our worst ever, Rob Edwards showed just how much the victory meant to him yesterday.

When Carlton Morris expertly steered the ball into the AFC Bournemouth net, at the Oak Road End, Rob thrust his arms into the air and sped off down the touchline in celebration.

It was a release of all the pent-up energy the winless run had built up, a release of all the frustration of seeing yet another player condemned to the treatment room and something he was to repeat after the final whistle sounded to bring to an end the six minutes of stoppage time announced.

After the game, speaking to the BBC, the gaffer summed things up perfectly when, in his post-match interview, he remarked:

“It was a huge victory. The one thing in football you cannot guarantee is a win.”

Exactly, as the defeat inflicted upon us by Sheffield United, at Kenilworth Road, proved.

Continuing, Rob added:

“You can guarantee effort and be organised to carry out a game plan, but it’s been hard for us this season as results have shown.”

“However, the character we showed we found the result today when it was important to do so.”

Precisely, as I mentioned in an article written before kick-off – it-is-win-or-bust-this-afternoon – the support knew we had to beat AFC Bournemouth, especially with the next fixture being an away trip to take on title chasing Manchester City.

But the manner in which it was achieved, with the late, late winner, made it an even more memorable day.

And to think certain critics reckoned we’d be relegated by Christmas!
