In our re-visitation of an original series first published when the UK was stricken by COVID 19 it is now time to take a look at the letter ‘G’.
With ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’, ‘E’ and ‘F’already covered, the original series, back in April 2020, was starting to gather momentum.
By the time we had reached ‘G’, as can be seen in the original article – luton-town-g-xi –
another regular visitor to our site, Tony Byfield had joined Chris Winter in offering up an XI.
For the letter ‘G’, Chris contributed the following XI:
• Tony Godden
• Ashley Grimes
• Alan Garner
• Clive Goodyear
• Claude Gnapka
• Tony Grealish
• Luke Graham
• Boncho Guenchev
• Don Givens
• David Geddes
• Andre Gray
While Tony’s debut XI looked as thus:
• Tony Godden
• Ken Goodeve
• Clive Goodyear
• Alan Garner
• Alan Goodall
• Tony Grealish
• Don Givens
• Ashley Grimes
• Liam George
• Phil Gray
• Tony Gregory
With Tony digging deeper into the past to include some players in his XI.
As for me, I went for the following XI:
• Tony Godden
• Claude Gnapka
• Alan Garner
• Clive Goodyear
• Brendan Galloway
• Tony Grealish
• Ashley Grimes
• Don Givens
• David Geddes
• Andre Gray
• Kevin Gallen
Looking back over the past four years, seeking the names of others who fit the selection criteria, I’ve come up with the following:
• Ryan Giles
• Carlos Mendes Gomes
Neither of whom, despite their best endeavours, I believe deserve inclusion in my ultimate XI which, after some deliberation reads as thus:
• Tony Godden
• Ken Goodeve
• Alan Garner
• Clive Goodyear
• Alan Goodall
• Tony Grealish
• Don Givens
• Ashley Grimes
• Boncho Guenchev
• Phil Gray
• David Geddes
But is it an XI you concur with or would you beg to differ?
