I Believe Luton’s Fate Is Now Sealed But What Are Your Thoughts?

When the post-mortem is held on the 2019 / 2020 season, I can’t help thinking that we’ll reflect on two reasons why the Hatters were relegated.

Now some may say I’ve jumped the gun and that survival is still a possibility and that is a view deep down I also harbour.

But the last two results have convinced me that our fate is sealed, and that relegation is an inevitability.

Returning to those previously mentioned two reasons.

The first is obviously the appointment of Graeme Jones, clearly a square peg in a round hole who didn’t have what it took to build on the foundations laid by Mick Harford and Nathan Jones.

The second is the results from our last two fixtures, I really believed that after taking 5 points from the previous 9 available, Luton could take maximum points against the likes of Reading and Barnsley.

But it wasn’t to be, Luton could only manage a miserly 1 from 6 and now our fate is effectively sealed.

However, this article isn’t all negative, we can take some positives going forward.

We now have Nathan back at the helm and we now have a chance to reshape the squad, decide who should stay and who should go as we prepare for life in League One, a division we should be looking to climb back out of at the first attempt.

Now, I know I always champion the fact that our fate isn’t over until the Fat Lady sings and I know that when it comes to the maths, survival is still possible, but this morning, after last night, I just don’t see it happening.

Perhaps, come three games time, I’ll revisit this article and think what a twat, but can you now see the Hatters retaining their Championship status?

Hi mh, sadly like you I went from we’re down before the lock down to hope after it for 3 games later an back to down again. Unlike you an I’m sad to say it that my warnings about gj went unheeded by some on here. An our fate was sealed by gj. Playing sluga for to long cost us 15 points. Again gj ignored wiser heads as he knew best. Look where we could have been with those points alone besides other games management lost from possible winning positions. As for the future I think we can walk div1 next season if we get 2 wingback like Stacey an Justin. We may already have 1 in kioso let’s hope mh an his team can find another

my fear is we’ll hold a fire sale to generate funds to survive and end up in mid-table next season

supported Luton since 1958,,, been with em through ups and downs..beeing logical were relegated,, if Sheff W and wigan are deducted points,, Luton Might just scrape through…… But am really piddled off with this Knee bending subservient gesture, should be kept OUT of sport altogether,,, But HEY just get behind luton this season and PRAY (:-)

Hi all, don’t quite see what the knee bending gesture has to do with it, but hey ho. As I said previous I think a few players have proved they are better than league 1. Think slug has proved his worth, cant see him being here, collo must be being watched, cornick too, although his finishing may hoks him back, cant see carter vickers dropping another league to stay with us. Bree will go back I’m sure, as he has proved a far better player under NJ than under gj…

I think after last night we’re down. We never seam to win the games against the lower teams. We need some new players. Can some one tell me why Moncur never gets a game he’s the best free kick taker at the club only Mick seams to rate him.

  • Paul says:

To date, 79 (SEVENTY-NINE) Goals against, that’s why we are going down.
Yet we persist with the same culprits at the back every week.

  • Alan says:

Ok yes 79 is disastrous, but what other defenders have we got people ????we tried both keepers, we only had Pearson and Bradley before vickers came in….I agree with chris the problems started with gj being a stubborn twat..end of..

Hi all, yes think fat lady already singing, GJ did far too much damage including playing Slug too much once errors crept in costing us too many points & at it again for 2nd goal which virtually killed off Luton against Reading in a must win game. I’m wondering if with games coming thick & fast it caught up with us since the season restart after 3 superb results against the top sides. Maybe the boys ran out of steam but disappointing to be thrashed by Reading & concede so late to Barnsley in a game which has almost certainly put the final nail in our championship coffin. But hey ho whatever will be & all that. At least next season we can build again with far more optimism now NJ is back at the helm as opposed to GJ. Although as has already been mentioned of course everything could be dependant on the nucleus of players that will be available to the manager.
