Wigan (A) – A Must Win Game Or A Must Not Lose Game?

This Saturday, the Hatters travel to the north-west to take on Wigan Athletic in a crucial fixture.

It is a fixture that many of the Hatters faithful are inferring the Hatters must win.

Clearly, that statement comes from the fact that Wigan, like us; are embroiled in a desperate battle to avoid relegation into the third tier of English football, League One.

Currently, Wigan have 40 points, 6 more than the Hatters.

That total was boosted by the Latics achieving a fine win away to the club currently on top of the Championship table, West Bromwich Albion.

But, looking at Wigan’s recent form, the club are on a good run having won their last 3 league fixtures and remaining unbeaten in their last 5 games, form that is slightly better than that of our won.

Therefore, on paper, it looks a tough ask for the Hatters, who’s away form has left a lot to be desired, to get all the 3 points on offer.

But it appears we’re a confident bunch, our current poll, at the time of writing, suggests 47% of those who voted reckon Luton will win, with 33% suggesting Wigan will win with the remaining 20% believing it’ll end as a draw.

If Luton are to retain their Championship status, they need to start collecting points on a regular basis but perhaps our survival hopes are based on gaining as many points as possible, at Kenilworth Road, with any achieved on the road being seen as a bonus.

Therefore, whilst inferring that Wigan is a must-win game, perhaps it’d be more accurate to imply it is a must not-lose game when you consider Wigan’s recent form!

If we could eke a Win at Wigan it would be a real six pointer against a side in top form. If we can pick from all our squad we have a real chance, so to me it’s a must win which would boost our confidence and help us truly believe we can stay up. Don’t forget Gary Sweet said he would be over the moon at the beginning of the season to see us end up 4th from bottom! What vision!COYH!

I think we’d all be over the moon if we can climb to 4th from bottom come the end of the season!

Hi mh, well still no start for Danny an a very defensive look to team. So wondering what his plans are

  • Chris winter says:

Half time looks like he is definitely looking not to lose. Was unsighted for the penalty appeal. Bit of a dull game. Both sides cancelling each other out.

  • Chris winter says:

Game over an just goes to show gj will not listen to advice. If he had we could have been 15 points better off. The slug has made a wonder save. An if only he had heeded advice maybe we would notbein this position!!!

Just seen penalty shout. Seen them given. Maybe unlucky here. Still a point well earned
