There Ain’t No Stopping Us Now, Luton Are On The March

|

Last night, at a snowy Kenilworth Road, any lingering doubts that the Hatters are not worthy of being in the promotion shake-up were dispelled when they beat their promotion rivals, Portsmouth, in a five-goal thriller.

The result, although the teams beneath them have games in hand, has given Luton Town a 5-point lead at the top of the table.

The victory also extends their unbeaten run, in League One, to a magnificent 17 games as Mick Harford now looks to prepare his side for a trip to take on Shrewsbury, weather permitting, this weekend.

In front of a capacity crowd of 10078, the Hatters took the lead when the goal-machine that is James Collins, scored with a low shot into the bottom corner, with thirty-nine minutes played.

Emerging for the second half a goal to the good, the Hatters were pegged back in the fifty-first minute when Ronan Curtis was on hand to send the large Pompey travelling support mad with a neat finish.

Luton restored their lead in the seventy-seventh minute when LuaLua was fouled in the penalty area and James Collins stepped up to score.

However, any thoughts the Hatters had of holding out for the victory didn’t last long when Portsmouth equalised for the second time, this time through Omar Bogle.

With eleven minutes, plus stoppage time, to play, both sides went looking for that crucial winner, but it was to be the home support that were the ones sent home happy when, from a free-kick, George Moncur, a January transfer window signing, curled a free-kick into the net.

The Hatters are on a charge, can anyone derail the orange and white juggernaut?
