With so little news breaking ahead of our home fixture with Sheffield United, this Saturday, I have decided to run a variant of an old favourite.
Last week, I ran an article – luton-best-ever-between-the-posts – which asked, as the title suggests, to nominate your favourite Luton Town goalkeeper of all time.
Today I thought I would do something similar but, instead, concentrate on the position of full-back.
Now I am not going to divide the subject matter into left back or right back, I just want you to select the person you believe has been our best full back ever.
Naturally, there are numerous candidates that could fill the profile, just off the top of my head I can think of:
• John Ryan
• Freddie Jardine
• Don Shanks
• Kirk Stephens
• Steve Buckley
• Bobby Thompson
and
• James Justin
And I apologise if I have not mentioned your favourite.
Getting the ball rolling, my selection would be Steve Buckley, a powerhouse of a defender who liked nothing more than to surge forward down the flanks supporting the midfield and the forwards.
But who would be your choice?
Simply drop their name into the comment facility beneath this article and we will see how this one turns out.

Luton – Look What You Could Have Won
The winner of this is obviously a certain jj. But for us old codgers on here
John Ryan
Steve buckley
Kirk Stevens
Although for me John Moore’s old side kick sandy Jardine was a stand out of better times.
Well as you say so many to choose from what about Kirk Stephens never stopped running and had a good shot as well.
JJ I am an old codger so J Barnwell who came with A Ashworth when we lost Billy Bingham
Bramwell was a very classy fullback as good as the internationals we were used to in the fifties and sixties.
I am an old codger as well how about Brendan McNally one of the 59’s who never really recovered after being injured in the FA final.
Yes!!! Brendan was an all time great! Seamus Dunne was t bad either.
Kirk Stevens, I remember getting really confused, wondering why he became a snooker player!
Dont you mean Freddie Jardine-who was brilliant for Luton
I do, apologies
After JJ I would give a mention to Graham Alexander!
Steve Buckley all day
My best two were Kirk Stephens and Steve Buckley.
Adding to the Old Codgers, Seamus Dunne and Bud Aherne both played to Republic of Ireland in the 50s.
don’t forget malcom mc.donald was signed as a left back from fulham i think. my number one is john ryan, just rolled his sleeves up and went for it.great turn of speed. second is james justin, very like ryan.third jack bannister.COYH.
Jack Bannister – good shout Jimbo
Surprised no one has mentioned Tim Breaker and Mitchell Thomas.
Two excellent shouts Tony
