Luton – Two More Possible Transfer Targets

Regular visitors to Vital Luton Town may recall that earlier this week we ran a couple of articles relating to the possibility of Luton picking up some players who are free agents.

Our two articles – luton-linked-with-3-bristol-city-players – and – luton-3-possible-striker-signings – prompted a healthy debate.

Therefore, with the weekend approaching, we thought we would delve back into the article published by Football League World and take a look at two players suggested who have not featured at all in any of our own articles relating to possible / probable signings.

The first of these is Alex Pritchard, a 28-year-old who is now a free agent after his contract at our Championship rivals, Huddersfield Town, expired.

Pritchard plays in midfield, an area of the pitch where, following several departures, Luton need to bolster.

Operating as an attacking midfielder, Pritchard made 80 league appearances for Huddersfield but only scored 3 goals, not a good return for someone described as a #10.

Previously, Pritchard has played for Tottenham, Peterborough (loan), Swindon (loan), Brentford (loan), West Bromwich Albion (loan) and Norwich City.

He has also been capped at U20 and U21 level by England.

Could Alex Pritchard be on Luton’s radar?

The second player is Matt Olusunde, a 23-year-old who operates as a right-back.

Olusunde is available after his contract ran down at Rotherham United. Last season he made 32 appearances and provided 3 assists.

Born in the USA, Olusunde has been on the books of Manchester United but never made a league appearance.

On the international stage he has represented the USA at U17, U20, U23 and as a full international.

Could Matt Olusunde be on Luton’s radar?

My view is that both could be viable propositions when it comes to Nathan Jones revamping the Hatters squad ahead of the 2021/2022 season, both are of the age where they still have plenty to give but, as is always the case, it depends on salary expectations and which other teams might pursue their signatures.

But what are your views on Alex Pritchard and Matt Olusunde, should we pursue them, or do we have better already at the club?

Please feel free to have your say in the comment facility beneath this article.

Morning mh, personally I don’t see either player being on our radar. Don’t know if Alan has Heard anything. But strikers are next on our list of priorities. Unless a real possibility comes up.

  • hatter 75 says:

Do not see these players offering anything extra to the town. Why do we need a right back already have a potential three on our books. What happened to the midfielders we were looking at earlier?

Truth is at least one extra striker is the priority and I believe one extra goalkeeper most championship sided have a minimum of three.

points taken, letting Isted go was a puzzling decision and yes, we do need another striker, stay tuned.

  • alan says:

hi all, same as chris, all im hearing at present is there a lot of work going on to bring a striker in…

  • Matt says:

Agree we seem well enough stocked for defenders. A creative midfielder (D.H returning can only be a pipe-dream) and a dependable striker, if there is such a thing, are the requirements.

  • Danny says:

morning MH, having read your comment about Isted i thought this podcast with Jake Howells may be of interest to you and your readers.

There’s been plenty of comments previously on here wanting the youngsters to be given a chance which Jake touches upon from a players perspective.

An open and frank interview with Jake discussing his highs & lows as a young footballer trying to make it at Luton.
He recognises that had we been playing in the Championship and not League 1 & 2 he would never of got his chance at Kenilworth Rd.
It highlights just how difficult it is for the likes of Isted and other youth/academy players to progress to the first team such is the standard required to play in the Championship.

if you’ve got a spare hour it’s a good listen, hope the link works ………..

  • Tom says:

We need a proven striker plus a midfield play maker, the players that may be on the radar are not going to improve us. So I guess we must keep the faith in NJ to bring in the right players.

  • Garry says:

Absolutely agree with Tom, Nathan must replace Dewsbury hall or get him back, back up for Ellie up front. All we need

  • Mark jennings says:

I’m a big Luton, I think Pritchard be a real good signing, if Dewberry Hall does not come back to us then he’s decent backup
