In the first of two majestic home fixtures, the Hatters welcome Arsenal, to Kenilworth Road, on Tuesday evening.
That appealing fixture is then followed by a visit from Manchester City at the weekend.
Looking back through the files, it appears that I’ve never got around to compiling an XI featuring Arsenal, in our ‘They Played for Both’ series.
After some deep thinking, I’ve come up with a starting XI (plus substitute) which can be seen below:
Goalkeeper – Matt Macey
Defender – Matthew Upson
Defender – POSITION VACANT
Defender – Gavin McGowan
Midfielder – Albert Sambi Lokonga
Midfielder – David Court
Midfielder – Henri Lansbury
Midfielder – Peter Nicholas
Forward – Malcolm MacDonald
Forward – Paul Dickov
Forward – John Hartson
Substitute – Steve Williams
However, as can be seen, I’m struggling, in a 3-4-3 formation, to find a third defender, can you assist?
If so simply drop their name into the comment facility beneath this article, also feel free to provide the names of any players I may have omitted that you feel deserve a mention

1962/1963 – great shout
John Ryan started his career at Arsenal but never featured in the first team. Also, Peter Cruse was another former Gunner who, if memory serves, played a handful of games for Luton circa 1972.
(Although it’s difficult to imagine Gavin McGowan as a professional footballer playing for anyone: he was slower than a cart horse)
Great shouts Gerry
