Luton Town – So Near But So Far Once Again As Manchester City Triumph

It’s the morning after the night before and once again we’ve pushed a top-team all the way but just failed to get a result.

So far this season, the Hatters have taken on Liverpool, Spurs, Arsenal and now Manchester City and in all four games we haven’t looked out of our depth.

Yesterday, against Manchester City, the team fought with all their might and actually led the treble winners at half-time, but City, in the second half went through the gears and showed their class, although it could be said that both of their goals could be attributed to poor defending.

Sadly, the result sees the Hatters occupying one of the three relegation places and with Everton despite their 10-point deduction, climbing the table, it is now looking as if, if we are to escape the drop, we need to be targeting the likes of Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace, both of whom are dropping down the table.

Unfortunately, while we continue to drop points, the gap between safety and relegation is growing, it now stands at four points, a considerable amount when you consider the Hatters have only won two games all season.

Next weekend, Luton Town trael to the south coast, to take on a Bournemouth side who have hit a fine run of form, culminating in a 3-0 win at Old Trafford, on Saturday. Is it a game the Hatters, at the Vitality Stadium, must get something from? I believe it is!

Nail on the head mh. It’s great to see us playing great football at times and running the best to the line. But to survive we now have to get results against the middle and lower teams. But was it ever thus remember how often in lower leagues we beat the best and struggled against those around us that has to change now. But we live in hope.

when you play against a team where one player has cost more than your entire team, sort of puts things into perspective. the passing skills that man.city showed was mesmerising.but we still give them a run for there money. when we get a more solid defence back from injury, hopefully it will help to turn things around. i think we are only a gnats bollock away from being a very good team. always living in hope.COYH.

    I think we’ll get there.
One observation though. We keep doing something we did in John Still’s time.
When doggedly defending (especially at corners) we don’t leave a man up so all clearances come straight back at us. A holding player near the centre circle gives us a target rather than a big hoof.
I know it’s one body less but belting it upfield is an open invitation to come at us again. G
