Luton – Plagued By Inconsistency

The exact nature of what was said, in the Luton Town dressing room, at half-time against Sheffield Wednesday, I guess we will never know.

But in an interview with The BBC, the scorer of the Hatters second goal, Ryan Tunnicliffe, does give an insight.

Firstly, talking about the awful first half performance, Ryan had this to say:

“Everyone was embarrassed at half-time, but a few of the lads spoke up and the gaffer left us to it – the boys said what needed to be said.”

So, it would seem that Nathan shared our disgust and left those who had got the team into such a predicament, hammer out the way to respond.

Continuing, Ryan added,

“We’ve not been playing badly but haven’t been picking up the points we like, but to come back like that shows real character.”

It does, but some would argue that, before the Millwall game, the Hatters were not playing badly they were just plain awful.

Further continuing, Ryan gave a brief glimpse of the comeback plan, when he further added:

“Before we left the dressing room, we said ‘let’s get the first goal’ and thankfully we did and then pushed on for the win.”

It was a remarkable comeback but the thing that bothers me, and several others who frequent Vital Luton Town, is why are we so damned inconsistent?

Anyone like to get the debate started?

no matter what the sport, it’s very very difficult to be consistent when you’re having to overachieve most weeks to keep your status at a recently acquired higher level.
I’m not saying we aren’t worthy of being a Championship side, clearly we are, but the reality is we can’t compete financially with most teams in this league and our form as a consequence was always going to be patchy, win a few, lose a few, play very well, play bad etc.
No team has really been consistent in this league, we’ve beaten top of the table Norwich twice convincingly and taken 4 points off Bournemouth without conceding who sit in the play-off places, both were Premier leagues sides last season.

A shorter season and no fans is a factor but it’s a problem everyone is having and for me it’s more of an issue for those with the resources who are underachieving than vice versa.

We’re 14th in the Championship and punching !

Here here danny…I also believe had crowds been at the Kenny we would be on a higher points total at the moment.

  • Danny says:

indeed Alan, certainly been a few draws where we should have taken all the points and fans present would probably have made the difference
