Following our first Championship defeat of the season, any thoughts of replicating last season’s form have, temporarily, been shelved.

Two points from the first nine available isn’t the start we had hoped for.

But following the defeat yesterday, what did Nathan Jones have to say?

Speaking to The BBC, the gaffer had a few decent points to make, starting with:

“It’s frustrating in a number of ways really. They probably had two opportunities really, one was a great header and one was shot from the edge of the box, but apart from that we limited them to very little.

“We’ve had enough of the game to have won it, so it’s just a little bit frustrating.”

Perhaps so but playing devils advocate I’d question our inability to score, our only goal this season has been scored by a defender, we’ve said before that if you don’t take your chances the Championship can be a cruel league.

Continuing, Nathan further added:

“It’s very difficult to chase a game now in the Championship, with the heat and everything. There was very little flow really.

“We tried to create a tempo in the game, but it just gets killed, and then a water break – we might as well not play in the heat. Why play? Just wait ’til it’s cool, wait ’til it’s cold. It’s crazy because there’s no flow.”

It’s a good point about the heat, it was like a furnace yesterday and perhaps not conducive to our style of play but it’s the same for both teams and I can’t agree with Nathan’s request to wait until its cold.

Indeed, in my younger days I can recall when the clamour for summer football was all the rage after a cold snap saw a plethora of games postponed.

Unfortunately, it’s the sort of excuse that smacks of desperation and almost on a par with Jurgen Klopp’s – ‘the pitch was too dry’ – after Liverpool drew 2-2, at Craven Cottage, on the first day of their new campaign.

Or am I being over critical?

Frankly mh, I’m dog sick of listening to nj after games now. Always something that’s not his fault. Wrong stop using trusted players if they aren’t doing the business. Put someone who does want to play an prove they are good enough. I’m critical of the cabin boy but if he plays an shows willing it’s better than the dross at the moment.
