Luton – Boss Lost For Words After Birmingham Debacle

It is interesting to note that following a bad performance, especially as bad as the one the Hatters produced yesterday the wheels of the Luton media machine appear to turn slower.

Late yesterday afternoon, I sat poised waiting for Nathan Jones to step up to the microphone and give an explanation as to why his side had performed so inadequately after showing such grit and resilience just days before, against Barnsley.

Perhaps the delay could be put down to the fact that Nathan, seemingly as embarrassed as the rest of us, wanted to tear a strip or two off his underperforming players.

But, when Nathan did face the media, and as reported by The BBC, Gave a very honest assessment of what we had just all watched, remarking:

“It’s not often we put in performances like that but today we’ve been a mile off in both boxes. The work-rate, the aggression wasn’t there today. We were lacking in the real important bits and I don’t know why.

“We’ve put in as many good set-plays as them but they’ve got their head on theirs and scored. The third goal absolutely kills us – we give it away on the edge of their box and that’s just symptomatic of us today.

“I’m a little bit embarrassed by the performance. If we put in too many like that we’re not going to be anywhere near where we want to be but I’m not going to overreact. We just have to make sure we learn from that and bounce back.”

We do and we must bounce back next Saturday, at home to Sheffield United, otherwise what was heralded as a possibly good season for Luton could turn into a calamitous one.

Naturally, Nathan’s response to that performance was covered on social media, with the following posts catching my attention?

Clearly, the support are not a happy bunch and things will need to be changed if we are not to suffer a repeat next time out.

There is a saying in football that suggests you are only as good as your last performance………………I’ll end this article there, shall I?

Piss poor reaction from nj. I know he won’t lambast the players in front of the media. But his own team selection led to that. Pelly in no longer the first team player OK no lansbury or Berry available but with the number of midfielders available to him Lee would have been a better option. An pulling kioso for rea was the death knell. He should pay everyone’s ticket back from his own pocket for that performance.

I can’t argue with you Chris, shame we have not got a midweek game to put things right, it is gonna be a long week.

One question I would ask why did we get a striker in on a free who in my opinion has had his best days I don’t think we have replaced the goals Collins got last season are fullbacks are also not good enough I would question Nathan Jones team selection like you both things have to improve but I wouldn’t hold your breath

Colin, Jerome has already shown why he’s been brought in. He’s a beast an ruffles up rugged defenders. He’s teaching adebayo on the job. An believe me defenders don’t like facing him. No he won’t get 20 goals but he will allow others plenty of opportunity to score with his play

agree with you chris, full backs are fine,we need any body who can head a ball in the box. ,COYH

  • Mr David Roberts ( Roby ) says:

I feel strongly that Elliot Lee needs a chance, no need to talk of another midfielder when he hasnt been given a decent run ! Same for Berry . but let Hylts go .he is dead wood !

  • jimbo says:

roby has got a good point about lee and berry, what about some youngsters. why are other teams able to use good youngsters, but we don’t. if your team is depleted, use them. how many players have luton got to choose from. we have a young guy that captains ireland u-21 ,and scores a goal,if you need a hungry player there he is. dion pereira ,give him a go. there are lots of options available. will n.j. use them ?????
