Was it my fault? Did I put the mockers on Easter when, last week, I published an article recalling the worst Easter I can recall?
In the article – the-worst-easter-i-can-recall – I recalled an Easter, back in the 1970’s when the Hatters were heavily beaten, away from home, by Derby County and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The Easter of 2021 will not be remembered with the same horror of the one I focussed on but defeats at Derby County and at home to Barnsley are still difficult to swallow.
Those dreams of a top-10 finish now look to be just that, dreams.
Naturally, after two defeats on the bounce, social media was alive with people keen to have their say and express their views.
Most were critical of the performance given yesterday, with the following illustrating the point perfectly:
Apart from that goal that was embarrassing 🤬🤬

Shocking performance apart from the last 5 minutes which makes the previous 85 more infuriating

Dreadful performance. Only one team on the pitch and it certainly wasn't us. Shambolic display

It is, I am afraid, hard to disagree with those three supporters, but, perhaps, another post sums it up a little better:
Nothing but respect for Barnsley. They turned up hungry and took two chances. We left it too late to switch on and didn’t really deserve anything from today

While others are of the opinion that hitting that magical 50-point target early has had an adverse effect on team performance:
Fightback too late. Its a shame we might be safe. Don't deserve to be. To many L1 players

But could the two Easter defeats be part of a master plan?
Could there be an ulterior motive?
One poster suspects that if Luton accumulate too many points this season then improving on that total next season could be a challenge too far:
The boys are so keen to improve each season that they don’t seem to want to put too many points on the board from these meaningless games. Need a manageable target for next season! 😉 #COYH

Or perhaps, in times like these, we should all remember one thing, as pointed out by a Barnsley supporter:
We've both had cracking seasons for clubs with one of the lowest budgets & wages in the division.
You cannot fault the efforts from all staff & players at both clubs. pic.twitter.com/vDaem6AQEk— udrivebarnsley (@udrivebarnsley) April 5, 2021
Perhaps we should all be drinking to that and be thankful we are not in the same mess we were in last season!

Morning mh, well after yesterday’s furore by some fans and njs observations about some players thinking its OK to relax now. Here’s a thought should Nathan now look to our young players coming through maybe give perraria a go Morrell maybe tq addy an beckworth. See how they perform. If the first tamers are not performing maybe it’s time to give them a wake up call. Why continue to play rea his confidence has deserted him. Pearson an Bradley are poor but we don’t have anyone else to replace them.
good points Chris, Nathan’s selections in the remaining games could give us a view as to what to expect next season.
Hi all, while I see the reasoning of throwing some youngsters in, if we get a couple more bad results while still on 50 points it could all go pear shaped very quickly and some on here will be calling for njs head again…. Let’s get 53/54 points asap, then look ahead to next season..locks is out for rest of the season so we will have to persevere with pearson/Bradley for now, much as many may hate it…. end of the day, it hasn’t been only defenders that have let us down, we all know it’s lack of goals that has been a big part in this season…..Let’s go out and kill the season by winning on Saturday….
I see Wycombe Wanderers won 3-0, at Rotherham, yesterday, it will be a tough match.
Hi Alan, I should have clarified I meant gradually one at a time not all at once. Also having seen perraria,’s performance’ s I think we should give him a go now as he has played prem football an msl so I think he’s worth the risk an offers something different up front
Get ya chris…I would gamble playing collo Adebayor and corninck Saturday. Get the win then last few games have look at a few with next season in mind…lot of people saying pell should go, I like him, i would keep him, not 1st choice, but keep him as cover…pearson/ Bradley conundrum? Who knows keep one again as cover.. but I think locks, Naismith, osho are the central defenders to go with, also potts can play there too , when fit… if we don’t bring another in….
