Luton – A New Deal But Will It Be Plain Sailing

The last time, here at Vital Luton Town, we commented on the future of Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu, it was because the midfielder was being linked with a move to Turkish football.

As the article linked here shows – stalwart-linked-with-turkish-move – my gut feeling was that Pelly, after 298 appearances for the Hatters, and now out of contract, was headed for pastures new, whether it be Turkey, Middlesbrough or Blackburn Rovers.

But my gut feeling was wrong!

Late yesterday afternoon, the club announced Official Luton Town that after much deliberation, Pelly has decided to put pen-to-paper to extend his stay with the Hatters.

Talking about the deal and as reported by our referenced source, Pelly had this to say:

“I love it at Luton, everyone knows that. The Kenny has become my second home and we’ve achieved so much in my time here.

“I know it’s taken a while with going away on international duty, an honour which playing for Luton has helped me achieve, but I know I’ve made the right decision.

“I have a special relationship with the supporters here as we’ve been on a journey together right from the Conference, and I couldn’t leave without experiencing a packed Kenny again.

“I can’t wait to get back into the swing of things. It’ll be so good to be back among the lads and hopefully together we can go on to make so many more memories.”

But our big question to you is quite simple.

With Nathan Jones having undertaken a major revamp of the squad, including adding some midfield talent to the side, how many Championship starts will Pelly make?

New Deal But How Many Championship Starts Will Pelly Make?

5 - 14

5 - 14

15 - 25

26 - 38

With 298 appearances, for Luton, to his name, Pelly sits in 24th place in the Hatters all-time appearances list, there is no denying his contribution has been magnificent as the club bas climbed out of non-league football to now compete in the second tier of English football, but has the midfielder already peaked when it comes to his Luton career.

Now whether Nathan Jones gave Pelly re-assurances about his place in the starting XI we are not party to, but he will face a difficult situation with the likes of Allan Campbell and Henri Lansbury having been signed.

But competition for places is what drives a club forward, Pelly may not be a new signing but acquiring the services of yet another of the old guard could just be what the club needs as it integrates the new boys.

Please feel free to have your say on the above subject matter in the comment facility beneath this article.

Here I go again mh😁 I said days ago that he was no certainty to leave. All he did was use his situation to test the waters get some offers in. An use them to get the very best deal luton could offer. That’s just using your head. As to whether he will be a starter I don’t know probably not. But at least now if he is sold the club will get some money back on him.

  • Danny says:

spot on analysis Chris, i believe pelly always wanted to stay but had to play the long game to get the very best offer from the club.
Delighted he has re-signed, as to whether he’ll play week in week out, only time will tell.
I wonder how his numerous knockers feel about having a player labelled as “rubbish” on here retained.

    Get well soon Mick !

Hi Chris, it’s was duely noted at the time and made sence.
Do you think that’s us now done in the transfer market or could the Leicester lad still join ? would that mean shipping out Morrell who despite playing his best game against B’wood must be even further down the pecking order of midfielders ?

  • Chris winter says:

Danny, in all honesty I don’t know what we are going to do with the Leicester lad. As has been said by nj they don’t want loans an if what I hear from Leicester is that they probably won’t sell at the moment. Then I would say we will return him. Regarding Morrell as Alan said he’s been in with Nathan an mick whether that has worked or he played to get noticed an a move out as I’ve said he’s to much of a risk to play. An h block are just waiting for him 😊 an as has been said before to many in front of him now.

  • Chris winter says:

Oh an another thing that fans should be aware of sluga has only a few months of his contract left. So unless we get him to a new contract signed. We are going to be short a keeper by the end of the season. So maybe Walton is a possibility after all.

  • paul says:

Well , we were bound to make one bad signing this season, should have let him go.
and a bit disrespectful, holding the club to ransom, as no other clubs bust a gut to get him.
    I wonder why?

    • Joan says:

Totally agree he held the club to ransome nj should have let him go but knew he wouldn’t as he appears to be a favourite but obviously not worth buying by another club

  • Peter Scott says:

I predicted that he would stay as he has not got the pedigree that would attract other championship clubs. He will probably be kept as cover in case the first team gets a lot of injury. We have far better players that have come in than him. Still those fans that think with their heart and not their head will be happy. I hope Isted stays now.

  • Alan says:

Hi all, as I said yesterday I think pelly will now be a big squad player……competition is vital in this league and getting a starting place will be fierce so it could be the challenge he needed without moving on…..

  • Danny says:

i’m not sure the leicester lad is that much better than what we already have, i’m thinking if the club don’t get an offer for Morrell that they’re happy with then loaning him out would sound more than likely.

Hi Alan, didn’t take long did it for the knockers to start. Yet they think a guy who wouldn’t train properly an whinges about not being in the team is of more value than a player who has taken us from non league to the championship. Says it all. He had 3 offers probably better than our offer from 2 championship teams an a Turkish supa league on the table yet stays.. But a moron thinks he held the club to ransom its moronic think from a fan with no knowledge of the real world

  • jimbo says:

as i have said before i will comment on players performances. i hope ruddock can show improvement on last season. very best of luck to mick harford.COYH.

    • Chris winter says:

Exactly jimbo, pelly has his faults but he’s been here 8yrs an helped us to be where we are. If he gets in the team let’s judge by performance.

    • Danny says:

wow, spectacular back tracking there jimbo, you labelled pelly as rubbish and you also labelled Rea as a rubbish in the same rant, nothing in your comments what so ever to do with individual performances …………. here’s a reminder of your very disrespectful comments on both players …………

agree rea was rubbish last year,i also thought ruddock was rubbish as well. if these two stay this year, would hope that better players are available for there positions. they both need to improve 100%. hope i am proved wrong.COYH.

      ringing any bells yet ?

  • Alan says:

Nice of Paul and Peter to wish big mick well……oh forgot pelly has signed so more important things to mention…..

  • Alan says:

Sure Peter accused pelly of being greedy when rumours were he was leaving, now he is saying no other club wanted him……you should stand for parliament….

  • Paul says:

Hi Chris, first you called Morrell a pile of sh-t , and now I am a moron. As i previously said, and you have now confirmed, you are obviously efected by peoples opinions, if it doesn’t agree with yours.
I think a foolish or stupid person, is more appropiate for you.
And Alen, I do send my best wishes to Mick, but I don’t need to be prompted by anyone.
I have a mind of my own, unlike I you, I dont need to work as as a double act.

    • Chris winter says:

As I said Paul pelly has spent 8yrs here getting us where we are now. He had 2 contract offers from championship clubs an a Turkish supa league team. Something you are blind too. So to say he held the club to ransom is moronic if he’s taken a lower offer to stay. Morrell has had 30 mins of good work in a luton shirt. An i commended him for it. Unlike your puerile comments which you spout off never backing it up with facts. I have supported you a couple of times when you’ve made a good point. But sadly most of your posts are uneducated mindless guff not worth a bean. An just because Alan an I an many on here are of a like mind. Just shows how out of step you are.

    • Alan says:

It’s Alan by the way…..I can think for myself to thank you….just found it strange that you couldn’t be bothered to post about mick, but pelly signing ‘my god’ I’ve never said pelly is brilliant, I only stick up for him, as some on here seem to think he us the only player to make mistakes…..also boro and Blackburn offered him deals ( fact)….I can’t tell how I know but that’s my business…as for Morrell he stated he wanted away, personally hold him in the same esteem as I held Scott oakes we he publicly announce he want to play for a ‘big club’ while being a hatter…if you read things correctly I’ve also said I hope Morrell can sort his differences and shine for us…..as for a double act, grow up or grow a pair….I assume you mean chris and myself, well again if you read previous posts we have had quite a few disagreements in the past….

  • Andrew says:

I am glad pelly is staying , has his faults as all players do but his has a big heart and love for this club . He will know the situation at the club and know it’s not going to be easy to get a start but one thing he is willing to stay and fight for a place which is a good thing . Morrell must now be thinking about moving as at this rate he won’t get a game with the under 12s.

  • Andrew says:

You can’t blame pelly for looking else where he has got to look after himself for later on when his playing days are over , we all do the same change a job for better pay so what’s different with footballers well pelly for holding out and getting a good deal .

  • Paul says:

2 contract offers from championship clubs and a Turkish super league team. enlighten me, who are the teams, Or could it just be his agent? And because Pelly helped get us into the championship, you think he only has to turn up to play, because thats what was happening, and to the detriment of other players, who were not getting a chance., including Morrell.
As for being puerile, it’s not me that makes comments like players being a pile of Sh-t, I would expect that from a juvenile, so pot kettle black comes to mind.
And if we were all, as you would like us to be like minded, then there is no point in having a Forum, where we can state our opinions, without getting personal, that you tend to do often to players and posters.

  • Chris winter says:

As you never read or bother to read posts properly. I’m not going to carry on rowing with you so in future let’s just ignore each other. An get on with me saying what I want and you having your say

  • Alan says:

Peter,Paul and Joan ( sounds like a 60s trio, not a double act, mind) have a read on the luton outlaws site and read the pelly comments on there….I’ve read them all and all the posts on here, not many not happy he has signed…..strange…..

  • paul says:

But obviously some do? that’s amazing, people having opinions and posting their thoughts.
Maybe Chris would like to respond to all the Pelly doubters on outlaws and call them morons and idiots.

And Chris, that’s fine with me, i just hope you learn to respect other people and their opinions.
