Well, sort of!

Following the carnage in the Champions League quarter-final, on Friday night, where Bayern Munich routed Barcelona 8-2, the Hatters went one better in a friendly against Berkhamsted, winning 9-0.

In what was a goal rout, Nathan Jones, as is often the case in early pre-season friendly fixtures, chose to play two different elevens in each half.

The first half saw the Hatters start with the following eleven:

Simon Sluga, Peter Kioso, Matty Pearson, Sonny Bradley, Corey Panter, Ryan Tunnicliffe, Luke Berry, Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu, Josh Neufville, Kazenga LuaLua, Danny Hylton.

Whilst the second half saw the following eleven emerge from the tunnel:

James Shea, Avan Jones, Martin Cranie, Glen Rea, Brendan Galloway (Tyrelle Newton 85), Eunan O’Kane (Sam Beckwith 85), Andrew Shinnie, George Moncur, Alliot Lee (Jake Peck 85), James Collins, Harry Cornick.

With the goals coming thick and fast both Danny Hylton and James Collins scored hat-tricks with the other goals coming from Sonny Bradley, Josh Neufville and George Moncur.

One highlight of the fixture saw both Brendan Galloway and Eunan O’Kane in action after both players had been side-lined for long periods with injury.

As is always the case, we’re not reading too much into the result, we’re realistic enough to accept the opposition were weak and when the real action commences that’s when the results and performances count, this was just a tune-up for bigger and better things.

Hi mh, yes this was treated as a step up from an inters quad game. An only to give players a chance to step up fitness with opposition who it would mean something to. Good to see o’kane and Galloway get minutes.

Always good to score a few goals in these type of games – great for confidence and morale. A bit surprised, though, that the new signing from Accrington Stanley did not feature.
