In the build-up to the EFL 2021/2022 Championship season, the Hatters support were intrigued by the appearance of Khanya Leshabela in some of the pre-season games.
Labelled as a triallist, Leshabela featured in the friendly fixtures against Rochdale, Bedford and Borehamwood.
On the books of Leicester City, the 21-year-old was hoping to secure a move to Luton Town but it now looks as if it is not going to happen.
Although Leshabela impressed, it is being reported by our associates at Luton Today, that a deal cannot be struck with the Premier League club.
In the words of Nathan Jones,
“He’s not with us now, he’s gone back to Leicester as we weren’t able to reach a deal.
“We really liked him to be fair, it’s just finances involved to be honest with you.
“We couldn’t do it with what we’ve done and spent, it became something that we didn’t pursue after that.”
That is a real shame, Nathan obviously thought Leshabela could do a job for the club but with the clubs’ finances needing to be kept in check, a deal could not be agreed.
It will be interesting to see what happens to Leshabela now.
Will he be kept on by Leicester City or will he be moved on to another club?
Sometimes, although an opportunity can present itself, circumstances contrive to prevent it from being taken.
Football can be a harsh sport at times and this looks to be one of those instances.
Let’s just hope this one does not come back to bite us especially when the player impressed those he needed to.
