As February 2021 came to an end and we entered March 2021, here at Vital Luton Town we asked an intriguing question.
In our article – how-will-luton-fare-in-march – we wanted to know how you thought the Hatters would do points-wise.
Our poll gave you 3 options to select from:
• 0-5 points
• 6-11 points
• 12-18 points
from the 6 games the Hatters should have played.
Now I use the word ‘should’ because we, unfortunately, lost one of those games when the home fixture against Rotherham United was postponed due to an outbreak of positive COVID-19 tests in the Rotherham camp.
Which left us with 5 games to play, fixtures that ended as thus:
• 02-March – Nottingham Forest 0 Luton Town 1
• 06–March – Norwich City 3 Luton Town 0
• 09-March – Luton Town v Rotherham (postponed)
• 13-March – Luton Town 0 Swansea City 1
• 16-March – Luton Town 2 Coventry City 0
• 20-March – Preston North End 0 Luton Town 1
Those 5 games saw the Hatters accumulate 9 points out of the 15 available, with 3 wins and 2 defeats.
More importantly, the last of those 3 wins, away to Preston North End, saw Luton Town reach the magical 50-points mark with that 1-0 victory.
But the postponement of the Rotherham fixture put the kybosh on the accuracy of our poll.
The results show that 81% of the votes cast predicted that Luton would accumulate between 6 and 11 points.
But, if the Rotherham game had been played that total could well have increased to 12 points, which would have pleased the 11% that went for the 12-18 points option.
Sadly, yet another intrusion on everyday life that the pandemic has had!
