How Will Luton Fare In March?

The exhilarating win over Sheffield Wednesday, on Saturday, lifted Luton Town to 14th in the Championship table.

After a run of iffy results, the win saw Luton Town move 12 points ahead of the relegation battle and 11 points adrift of a play-off place.

Being brutally honest, I would suggest the latter is a pipe dream, but the former is something that, if we allow our form to drop again, could see us dragged into.

This month sees Luton play 6 Championship fixtures, 3 away from home and 3 at home, although it seems that any benefit gained from playing at home is negated by the playing behind-closed-doors scenario.

Our March fixtures are as listed below:

• Mar 2- Nottingham Forest (a)
• Mar 6 – Norwich City (a)
• Mar 9 – Rotherham United (h)
• Mar 13 – Swansea City (h)
• Mar 16 – Coventry City (h)
• Mar 20 – Preston North End (a)

In our usual feature, here at Vital Luton Town, we would like you to think deeply and, via the poll below, predict just how many Championship points the Hatters will amass in the month of March.

What fans need to remind themselves is that we are punching above our financial & support numbers weight.

On top of that we have NO MATCHDAY INCOME , and the board are juggling all this while battling to build the new ground !!

I’d say we are doing amazingly well under the circumstances & anything above last years 19th place finish has to be a decent season !!

Nathan has rightly been very loyal to the core of players who got us to this place from league 2.

Sadly Hylton has been preferred over Lee as second option up front.

I really like Elliot ,he is still only 26 with bags of skill & energy, Hylts is past it !! thanks for the memories.

Hopefully Elliot will be a big hit at Oxford & restore Nathans confidence in him as a striker ,not a midfielder.

Why do we have OODLES of midfielders & so so little up front ? ( even Defence is thin on the ground as injuries now expose )

I’d also sooner take Lee over Hylt’s, love Hylt’s but the former has age on his side he’s certainly more versatile and offers us a lot more in the final third. Sadly however Lee asked to go out on loan after not getting the guarantees he was looking for regarding game time. I wasn’t overly fussed about Shinnie moving on but letting Lee leave permanently would be a mistake imo.
The vast majority of fans would fully agree with your comments about our lofty position and us currently overachieving all things considered though every club has their quota of despondent types and we’re no exception.

Data analyst experts fivethirtyeight.com currently have us finishing 6 points better off than last season on 57 points with just a 3% chance of relegation which sounds about right to me – Copy & Paste below for those interested
