Yesterday, at the John Smith’s Stadium, wasn’t the prettiest of displays, if we are to be honest, but it was one of true grit.
After a goal from Duane Holmes had given Huddersfield Town the lead, the Hatters had to dig deep, to first, equalise through an Amari’i Bell goal and then, with six minutes to play, grab a winner through Reece Burke, who was on as a substitute.
At times, our shape was lost, at times we had to scrap for the ball and at times battling for a chance was more prevalent than creating a chance.
But it is to Luton’s credit that they did exactly that and, under the tenure of Rob Edwards, they continue to impress, having grabbed a fine 9 points out of 9 over the festive period, something we all hoped for but dared to actually believe it would happen considering the opposition put in front of us.
It’s no wonder that Rob Edwards, talking to the local BBC was only too willing to credit all those that deserved it, remarking:
“Full credit to the players and all the staff, who have worked extremely hard to make sure the players are in as good a condition as possible to deliver nine points.
“Massive credit to the supporters who have made a long journey on New Year’s Day and I’m really pleased to send them home happy.
“We found a way to win. After a slow start, we gradually grew into it. It was great timing to get the equaliser when we did.
“At 1-1 in the second half there wasn’t much in the game, I just thought ‘let’s make an attacking change and let’s go for it’. Cauley Woodrow coming on gave us another little spark, we went for it, but then it was a centre-back who got the goal.”
To me it is a shame that we now embark on another Championship break, with the FA Cup tie, against Wigan Athletic, taking centre stage this weekend, but how long will it take for the mainstream media to, just like last season, start to mention Luton as potential candidates for a play-off place, after all our fine recent form has seen us climb up to 5th place in the table!

Happy new year all. Yesterday was a typical away performance. Yes it was a scrap at times, but this is the championship, not the conference. We can’t be expected to just roll teams over at this level. How many times have teams come to our place and scrapped a result. Plus under NJ we would have settled for a draw, so full praise to Edwards for keeping 3 up top at 1.1
Agree Alan this is the hardest league in Europe to get out of so take wins however they come it’s points not performance in some games pretty football is all very well but not as important as points.
