Earlier this week, a piece of transfer speculation emerged that mentioned that approximately 11 Championship clubs were looking at acquiring a certain player.
According to The Sun, Manchester United have received numerous inquiries regarding the possibility of signing Phil Jones.
The defender, who can also play as a holding midfielder, has had a nightmare time when it comes to injuries and has not played since a FA Cup tie against Tranmere back in January 2020, but is now approaching full fitness.
Our referenced source implies that Manchester United could be open to a loan deal, something that could see approaches from the Premier League sides, Newcastle United and Watford.
But, returning to the suggestion that 11 Championship sides could also be interested in the player, I can’t help wondering if Luton were on of them.
Jones, at his best, is, in my opinion, better than anybody we have in his position and would greatly improve our side.
But it doesn’t take long to work out that Luton are not one of the eleven clubs showing an interest when you read that Jones, despite not having played for a considerable period of time, is on £130,000 a week.
Even if Manchester United subsidised the move, that kind of salary would clearly blow our pay structure apart.
Nevertheless, we can but dream.

Luton – Another Legend Of Our Game Leaves Us
Hi MD , sorry claimant Jones is not for me and on those wages wouldn’t go near him , makes too mistakes and cost Goals. Can’t fault him for trying but I don’t think he is worth the money if we could get someone else. Coyh
Morning mh, if nj is so against loans then why would we be interested. As adrew says at his money no chance of him coming. An our defence is still trying to adhere after all the injuries we’ve had they are not yet a unit but it will come.
Good point about loans Chris, I was just putting the rumour into the window, I don’t for a minute think we are one of the 11 Championship clubs interested.
No way…people are critical enough of errors leading to goals without bringing in someone who is catastrophic with regard to mistakes….plenty of cheaper better options….from what I’m picking up, there a plans afoot for if not January, then definitely in the close season…..
Hi Alan, don’t be surprised if it’s Jan.
Also although the club always keep it tight. I’m worried about whether sluga will be staying or going. I know he’s not everyone’s favourite but he’s worth more than we paid now.
Hi Chris, I was present at a behind closed doors game yesterday, there is a lot of planning for next season starting now…..sluga I believe is worth a lot more than we paid. My only concern with him is he doesn’t command his 6 yard box, he has his odd dodgy moment, but most keepers do. I’ve heard the same ad you, that it maybe family issues that moves him on.
My info is that we have been scouting hard on 2 players ready for the window
If that is the case should we move him on in January otherwise our record signing will leave for free?
Mh, not knowing what stage negs are at. We have to be prepared for whatever happens so it’s logical that plans for either scenario must have started early. An as I’ve said before maybe that’s why we were heavily talked up as a Walton possibility. Though that boats sailed now.
where did Walton end up?
Ipswich!!!
not much of a step up compared to Luton then!
Hi all , with the way the board and NJ have worked before in the transfer windows I feel they already know what is going to be happening with slugs so I am not that worried in 5hat area still feel we need that one player to play the killer pass . Coyh
