Luton – Turn Out The Lights

Well, I survived the weekend with its meagre amount of football coverage, even if it was hard work.

The lowlight must surely be England’s totally inept, boring performance against Italy, now that really was a bore fest!

The highlight, I will admit, was the League 1 clash between Plymouth Argyle and Ipswich Town, a game the Pilgrims won 2-1 but a game that gripped my attention from start to finish.

But the purpose of this article is to discuss that is going to, if it already hasn’t, the cost of fuel crisis.

With bills set to increase significantly, I’m guessing we’ll all be making cutbacks in one way or another.

But, sat in my comfy armchair, I overhead something that could affect our football.

With inflation soaring and with purse strings being tightened, the suggestion made was that, as the nights drawn in, some clubs may opt to reduce costs by kicking off, at a weekend, at 12:30 hours, thereby negating the use of floodlights.

Although this would seriously impact upon travel plans for away fans, especially if it is a long trip, what are your views on the suggestion?

Would it work?

Could it be done?

If it saves the club significant money then I’m supportive of the move.
I got used to having a breakfast and beer meet before our run of early KOs for TV last season and an earlier return from away fixtures potentially leaves the evening free for social events…. keeping the wife happy!

Morning mh, I’ve also seen comments that moving games forward to early kick off. Actually costs more than a usual time. I can’t say why that is exactly unless more police an stewards are required an other factors come in to play. But if costs rise as expected at least clubs are taking notice an planning ahead. Also its not uncommon. It was a regular thing in bygone days for games played during the week to kick off at 3 pm.

It’s all about the cost if we save money by cutting overheads then it’s fine with me I also so travel 50 + plus miles for home games.

“We will be supporting Rob Edwards come hell or high water.”
Obviously a low tide today so support withdrawn.

  • Alan says:
