Luton – The Stop, Start, Stop, Start Campaign

This really is a season like no other when it comes to the continuity of the league campaign.

This weekend, we’re all set to twiddle our thumbs as domestic football, once again, grinds to a halt.

Hard-on-the-heels of the cancellation of fixtures as we mourned the death of our beloved Queen Elizabeth II, we now find ourselves in the midst of an international break.

A break that allows countries to compete in the European Nations League, as if we don’t have enough international football already.

But, once football resumes again, we’re ploughing towards, what I believe, to be the first World Cup played in the middle of a campaign.

All it will need now is a harsh winter, global warming allowing, in January or February and the season of interruption could well overspill into the next close season break.

I can’t help thinking, can anyone else, in their lifetime, remember such a chaotic season?

Couldn’t agree more with you. But when you look at the corruption in the world governing body. What can you expect. For them it’s only about money. Not what’s best for football. It’s just a mess.

The only plus this year is (barring Cov) all teams are facing a linear and consistent interruption to schedules. At the start of COVID was probably the messiest schedule to deal with… But this is the worst pre-scheduled mess I can remember.
