Luton Town – There Are Always A Few Idiots

Ahead of the game, against Aston Villa, I penned a small tribute to Chris Nicholl, who had passed away earlier in the week.

In the article – RIP-Chris-Nicholl – I forget to mention that I hoped there would be some kind of tribute to the classy centre-back before the game.

Therefore, it was pleasing to see the players emerge from the tunnel with black armbands on and, before kick-off, line up around the centre circle to observe a minute’s silence in honour of the former Northern Ireland international.

But sadly, the tribute was ruined by a few idiots who thought it was the done thing to shout out during the 60-second tribute.

Matters were then made worse by other people screaming ‘quiet’ and ‘shut up’ but only prompting others to repeat the comments but this time directed at them.

It was shameful and with millions, around the globe, tuning in to the live coverage of the game, on Sky Sports, it only showed our club in a bad light.

Now I know there will always be the occasional idiot, but I’ve always thought that a minute’s applause, in honour of those who have departed, is a much better option, thereby drowning out those who seek attention.

Your thoughts on the above would be most welcome.

The moron who started the shouting should ne named then shamed by those around him.

Chris Nicholl was a great player. I was in the Oak Road when he shone for Halifax against us and thus was swiftly signed. He was soon snatched by those higher up the talent chain but while with us he dominated every opposition centre-forward.

My dad told me Syd Owen was better and Steve Foster was more inspirational but Chris was among the best centre-half’s we have ever had.

From France where I Always follow the journey of the “Hatters” with interest, I am shocked by the attitude of some who respect nothing. It was important to pay tribute to Chris Nicoll who was an excellent player and Defender at Luton Town, Aston Villa and Southampton…
    RIP Chris Nicoll and thanks….

Saw him play many times – he was a rock at the back and could score a few too. Society has gone to pot and we celebrate many of the wrong things in soccer these days. But then you dont see goalies stubbing out their cigarettes on the goal posts these days either!

Spot on and Chris was a lovely bloke as well.
