Back in August, not many gave the Hatters a chance of staying in the Premier League, especially those of a neutral persuasion.
But with eight games to go we are very much in with a chance of securing at least a second season in the top flight of English football.
Okay, some might say the odds are stacked against us, considering we’ve not won for nine games and our next opponents are Arsenal (a) and we have a crippling injury list, but the fight we continue to show is magnificent and well worthy of praise.
At the final whistle, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, our hosts knew they had been in a tight match and only secured the vital win with an eighty-sixth minute winner, a goal that saw Rob Edwards look to the heavens in disappointment.
After the game Rob, being his honest self, gave his obligatory post-match interview, remarking, as reported by Sky Sports:
“I feel sick right now. Tottenham are a brilliant team, a fantastic manager and really good players but to lose so late from our own attacking set-piece is difficult to take right now.”
Indeed, it was a sickening blow, as the side fought with all their hearts, and with my blood pressure going through the roof, only a goal two or three minutes later, or in stoppage time, could have been a harder blow to take.
Continuing, Rob praised his injury hit squad, adding:
“I’ve got to give the players so much credit. To be competitive with the amount of players we’re missing, the lads deserve a lot of credit.
“The effort was there and played really well when we could. Tottenham are right up there with Liverpool for quick regains so I can’t fault the lads. We made some mistakes, but the effort was amazing and to push them all the way.”
Sadly, it is becoming a habit conceding late goals and losing matches but to come so close on so many occasions, against decent teams, gives me hope that we can pull off the proverbial miracle and stave off relegation, although it is, as you’d expect with Luton Town, going to be a close shave!

I must have been typing when you posted jimbo. Totally agree.
What a gutsy team. With another three injuries today it is going to be a very tough slog to stay up. It will be gutting if we don’t, but I could never be critical of the effort of this bunch of players. I can’t remember seeing one quivering bottom lip. A big hats off to all involved with this team regardless of where we go from here.
The biggest problem for me has been the loss of nakamba and longi not performance of the team. With them I’m sure we would have more points than we now have. Their loss has been pivotal in our season and that’s the real reason we are in this position.
