Luton Town – A Tussle Lost But The Fight Is Far From Over

Eight games to go and our tenure, in the Premier League, is looking shakier by the day.

Yesterday, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, we were living the dream for fifty or so minutes after Tahith Chong, following a superb counterattack, had given the Hatters a third minute lead.

Sure, we rode our luck, a shot from Son hit both posts and stayed out and the follow up was superbly cleared off the line by Mengi and another effort appeared to have crossed the line but, according to goal line technology, hadn’t by the merest of fractions.

But just as you thought ‘Lady Luck’ might guide us over the line, she deserted us.

A mystery clearance from Kabore, straight into his own net, levelled the score and with just four minutes to go, plus stoppage time, our hopes of claiming a point were destroyed when Son netted to condemn Luton Town to an eighteenth defeat of the season dropping us back into the relegation zone on goal difference.

However, whilst the travelling support filed out onto the streets of N17, they saw a lot to offer them hope that the dreaded drop can be avoided.

The spirit shown by those who played was superb, the work rate was magnificent, even more so when you consider how many players were out due to injuries.

Also, against a side tipped to qualify for the Champions League, getting a result was considered, before the game, to be improbable, as could possibly be said for the next fixture, on Wednesday evening, against high flying Arsenal.

So it would appear our 2023/2024 Premier League campaign, and whether we will survive or not depends on how many points we can pick up from our last seven fixtures, the gap between ourselves and safety isn’t insurmountable, we may have gone nine games without a win but I’d be more worried if I supported an Everton side who have gone a far from magnificent twelve games without a win and face the possibility of another points deduction due to financial irregularities.

Chins up Hatters, the battle may have been lost yesterday but the war is far from over!
