Another defeat for the gaffer to mull over but plenty of positives to take from the performance.

Indeed, if we’d have had our wits about us and not had such a poor opening 10 minutes, I believe the result could have been so different.

After the final whislte and after Harry Styles had left the ground, the gaffer spoke to the media and, as reported by the BBC, had this to say to the media:

“We can’t give Man United a two goal lead like that. We gave ourselves a mountain to climb. Ultimately, 2-0 against a team like that is really difficult. No excuses. We play that way, we take the risk. We are going to make mistakes but it cost us today.”

Indeed it did, we gave ourselves a mountain to climb, a task that was, ultimately, too big a hurdle to overcome, but, despite the poor start, our heads never dropped and we gave Manchester United one of the hardest 90 minutes they’ll face this season.

Continuing, Rob spoke about the gameplan, whereby he opted to play a man-for-man system at the back, a case of three against three:

“It was a commitment to the gameplan, it didn’t collapse. We had a lot of control but we were vulnerable to the counter attack. I was really pleased with how the players responded. We looked like a good team.”

Bit of an understatement there perhaps, I lost count of the number of times Manchester United broke in a one-on-one situation in the second half. But praise must go to Thomas Kaminski for the part he played in keeping the score at 2-1.

Continuing, Rob further added:

“We’ve lost the last two but we got points in the previous one. We’re playing well, we’re performing well. No one can argue against now. It doesn’t get any easier now. We need to recover quickly and then we go away to Liverpool.”

Fingers crossed, we can get something from what looks like a tough trip but with Liverpool looking towards a Cup Final this coming Sunday and with a lengthy injury, you just never know!
