Luton Town Can Take Heart From Another Home Defeat

Once again it is the morning after the night before and once again we’re contemplating another defeat.

Two consecutive home defeats, in the Premier League, does not auger well for our survival and a win for Everton, against Crystal Palace, tonight could see the Hatters dumped back into the relegation places.

But whereas there was an air of despair after the home defeat by bottom-of-the-table Sheffield United, a week or so ago, the performance the team provided, against Manchester United, on Sunday, was far, far better.

Indeed, if we hadn’t of got of to such a poor start, conceding two goals in the opening six minutes with one coming after just 35 seconds, we could well have beaten the Old Trafford based club.

When Amari’i Bell made an error, letting in Rasmus Hojland to round Thomas Kaminski to net and then the same striker deftly turned in a shot, that was going wide, into the net with his chest, the Hatters could have folded and gone on to suffer a heavy defeat, but our club doesn’t operate that way.

Despite being without our top-scorer, Elijah Adebayo who picked up an injury during the warm-up, the XI selected got at Manchester United and once Carlton Morris bravely reduced the arrears, with a brave header, it was one way traffic for the remainder of the first half.

Manchester United were hanging on and the likes of Harry Maguire and Casimero looked far from the accomplished internationals they are meant to be, indeed, Casimero was lucky to stay on the pitch after a series of rash fouls.

Clearly rattled, Eric ten Hag made two substitutions at half-time taking off the two previously mentioned offenders.

Our visitors came more into the game in the second half with Kaminski, and the defence, performing wonders to prevent the Hatters conceding a third goal with some superb work when faced with one-on-one situations.

The Hatters never gave up and almost forced an injury time equaliser, in stoppage time, when a header from the impressive Ross Barkley clipped the top of the bar, but it wasn’t to be with the Hatters penchant of losing by a single goal, so many times, continuing.

Next up is a midweek trip, on Wednesday, to take on the league leaders Liverpool, it could be a case that things could get worse before they get better but the stoic way we continue to go about our business convinces me we have more than a fair chance of staving of promotion come May.

Morning mh, the one thing that has frustrated me in the last two games is the fact that when we are dominant in possession that an this is across the board the whole team that in the final third every individual is making the wrong decision as to what to do with the ball. When we are the counter attacking team an use the surgeon scalpel of two or three passes to attack and it’s successful. Just my opinion. Also I now believe that two players last night are not premier players but they won’t be dropped as are seen by management in a different light again my opinion. We have to be better in the final third with decisions and score to survive.

Morning MH My view drop Bell as not at his best at moment could be a wake up call. put in Potts as we may need someone at corners to head us a goal with Adebeyo injured.

We had similar chances to Man U they put theirs away we failed. Woodrow again missed a chance which he should have scored. Play a proper fullback and move Ogbene into a more forward midfield position.

What only four minutes extra played and a second yellow not given this ref was biased or wanted to get home early. Lets hope all those clubs (including the big ones gets their points deduction for financial reasons.

I have been reading that gab osho is out of contract at the end of the season and can go on a free how has this been allowed to happen!! Apparently bayer Leverkusen are making moves to sign him he’s a multi million player now yet we could end up with nothing for him !!! That is not on.

i am sure most supporters will agree with your comments chris. but i am still overwhelmed that we are playing the best players in the world, week in week out. we more than hold our own, which is a pleasure to watch. regarding osho, its swings and roundabouts. barkley for instance, coming on a free, townsend etc.. I think that young players are in place to take over, and some exciting players will eventually get in this team. if i was a manager looking to bolster my team, i would be looking at several luton players to step into my team Is the new right back ready yet, gone very quiet.COYH

Hi Jimbo, not knocking performances but it shows the gulf between a team of together players and those with a couple of world class players that can undo us. As for youngsters I see 1 maybe 2 for the near future that’s all. But expect macatee and Taylor to be around next season I hope. As for the Japanese guy I don’t want him thrown in to early as slugs was an it being a disaster I expect him to get a few subs outings by the end of the season.

I know I was only watching on TV and didn’t see the bigger picture of play, but it seems to me that we were slow starters and the defence really cost us the game. Also if only we had a genuine goalscorer I would be a lot happier,However can’t fault the commitment to everyone, unfortunately that just isn’t enough in PL.
