Our pre-match poll, suggested that the Hatters support believed Luton would brush aside Bolton Wanderers to claim a place in the FA Cup 4th round.
Indeed, 68% thought it would be the Luton Town support going home with beaming smiles on their faces.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be with the League One side showing the same kind of resilience the Hatters show in the Premier League on a regular basis.
The 0-0 draw means two trips to the north-west in the space of five days for the Luton camp, not the best preparation for the supposed winter break.
Speaking about the 0-0 draw, and as reported by the BBC, Rob Edwards had this to say:
“Disappointed not to win the game. It was pretty much one-way traffic in that second half, but we’ve hit the woodwork, we’ve huffed and puffed and had a nailed on penalty.”
Indeed, like many I also thought that was the case.
But despite the VAR contingent being raised to three officials, for FA Cup competitions, the decision remained one that frustrated the gaffer, with Rob remarking:
“I don’t see the point of VAR if it’s not going to overturn that decision. That’s really frustrating. I never blame that, but that was a mistake.”
“I will go and have a word to ask the question. I am disappointed [the referee didn’t get to have a second look], I think he should have.”
I’m not sure if frustrating or scandalous is the more apt word to describe that obvious error.
However, despite making four changes, Rob couldn’t fault the effort shown by his side, further remarking:
“The players performed well, we just couldn’t find that goal to get us over the line. Credit to Bolton, they’ve done well but we should’ve won the game.”
Indeed we should, but at least we live to fight again and I see no reason why we can’t go to the Toughsheet Community Stadium and get a win, can you?
