It is the FA Cup 3rd round this weekend with the Hatters taking on Bolton Wanderers, at Kenilworth Road, this Sunday.
Ahead of what could be an exhilarating tie, I’ve chosen to take an irrelevant look at the fixture focusing on celebrities associated with the town of Bolton, you never know it is something that might catch on or it might get hideously derided and never seen again!
Amir Khan – One of my faourite boxers, in his early days his elusive skills propelled him to the status of world champion. However, age caught up with him and after losing to Kell Brook opted for the easier life of retirement.
But, if pushed to name my favourite Khan memory it would have to be his spell in the jungle, on the programme ‘I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here’ when after doing a ‘dingo-dollar’ challenge with Iain Lee, answered the question right and were given a plate of strawberries as a reward, to be shared with the other contestants in the camp.
However, the temptation proved to be too great and Khan and Lee proceeded to eat all the strawberries en-route back to the camp and then told the biggest lie in the history of the show by telling the other contestants they had got the crucial prize question wrong.
A legend in my eyes!
Jenny ‘The Vixen’ Ryan – Known to many as one of the most instantly recognisable faces on the ITV quiz show The Chase. Affectionately known as ‘The Bolton Braniac’ Jenny has an army of fans who tune in whenever she is on the show.
Clearly an above average intelligent lady, she is rarely beaten on The Chase and has an air of superiority about her.
But, although some find her attractive, I’d have to admit being attached to somebody as clever as her would leave me a troubled man, I’d much prefer a night out with Shaun Wallace, although he’d have to promise not too sing and the subject of football would have to dominate the talking.
Vernon Kay – A TV presenter turned radio DJ who took over from Ken Bruce on the Radio 2 09:30 spot. It was always going to be a tough challenge to appease Bruce’s legions of fans and I’m not sure he has won them all over yet. But, I will admit his show is very listenable to, even if mentions of his home town, Bolton, far too many times.
However, my opinion of Vernon increased substantially when he, recently, raised circa £6 million for children in need when he ran what was termed a mega-marathon completing a distance of 116 miles over the course of four days.
Kudos to the man!
Are there any other Bolton celebrities out there?
