News broke yesterday that the Hatters had secured the services, for the foreseeable, of Andros Townsend.
Back in the latter days of 2023, here at Vital Luton Town, we ran an article relating to the former England international’s future.
Our article – an-unexpected-bonus – hinted that Andros would be putting pen to paper on a new deal.
Yesterday, that was confirmed by the Official Site, with Andros himself quoted as having remarked:
“Obviously I’m delighted; three months ago I thought my career was over. So from going to begging around the world just for a trial to being offered a longer contract is a dream come true.
“It’s a special, special football club. I think we can really achieve something special this season. It’s only half-way done, we’ve got six months – 19 games – to pull off the unthinkable.”
It is another deal we feel the Hatters hierarchy have handled exceedingly well.
Townsend had been out of football for a considerable period and both parties were aware of the risk the deal presented.
But, while wearing a Luton Town shirt, Andros has excelled and extending the deal, if both parties were agreeable, seemed to be a no-brainer.
However, the exact length of the new deal remains a mystery, with it merely termed as being ‘for the foreseeable future’.
My view is that it has to be for 18 months minimum with the possible option of a further season.
As you’d expect, the news relating to the subject matter has been well received on social media as the following posts illustrate perfectly:
Great signing.
He has been instrumental to the clubs progress so far this season.

Here’s hoping Andros continues to show the great form over the course of this most welcome contract extension.
