Luton – The Tom Ince Quandary

Back in the days when, on the January transfer deadline day, Luton secured, albeit on loan, the services of Tom Ince for the remainder of the season, an air of jubilation followed.

Ince was welcomed, by the Hatters support, as somebody who, on his day, can influence the outcome of a game.

His track record augured well for a successful loan spell at Kenilworth Road.

But if has not happened yet has it?

On Tuesday, in the home fixture against Swansea City, Ince was conspicuous by his absence, spending the entire match sat on the bench.

When the former England U21 international arrived, the insinuation coming from within the club was that Ince had to get match fit before the side would benefit from his skills.

Indeed, delving back to those early days after Ince had joined Luton Town, I can remember Nathan Jones remarking, as reported by The Luton Today:

“We’ve got 19 games, so imagine if we get Tom Ince at his best for 12, 14 of those games, then it’s been worthwhile and that’s what we’ve got to think of.”

Well, as things stand, the Hatter have 10 games left and Ince’s appearances remain as sporadic as ever.

Will we get to see the Ince that Jones hoped for when he signed him, on loan, or is it destined to be one of those moves that did not live up to its potential?

If Tom Ince is not up to the task why keep him io lone, I was hopping he was going to a job for yes and a possible new addition in the summer

Morning mh, during inces periodic cameo’s on the pitch. I noticed the number of incisive little passes he was putting into the box putting the ball through the eye of a needle. But not 1 of our players would run into the space to receive it. They expect ball to feet. So much so that it reminds me of the antic problem in that technically he was to good for the luton team of the time an that although he was meant to be a sweeper was fantastic in midfield. Maybe he just doesn’t fit what we need sadly. As I think given a run he would score goals for us

I agree with Chris’s assessment. You see the little passes playing into space but because others don’t read it, it looks a bad pass. That is the way we need to play if we are to make inroads as a Championship side. I’m really disappointed that he hasn’t been given more game time.

there is a reason we have let him out on loan, he is bone idle and useless, believed the hype about himself and thinks he is better than middling championship clubs, could be he is better but his attitude stinks, he wouldn’t perform well in league two

  • John says:

As I stoke fan I’ve not seen him play for Luton.

However the review your giving is unfortunately as good as it gets.

Shame it’s only a loan. When’s his contract up…. God he’s awful. Should be playing hide and seek not football the fraud
