Luton – One, Both Or A Smokescreen

Regular visitors to Vital Luton Town may recall we ran an article relating to the possible signing of a centre-back last week.

Our article – luton-linked-with-defender-acquisition – covered the speculation linking the Hatters with a move for the Portsmouth centre-back, Jack Whatmough.

Yesterday, with the Hatters featuring prominently in the early activity in the Championship summer transfer market, we confirmed – luton-secure-second-summer-signing – the Hatters had secured the services of the Hull City centre-back, Reece Burke.

So, does this mean Luton could still be looking to bring Whatmough to the club?

I would say no, especially as news emerging this morning, courtesy of The 72 reports that Whatmough is determined to leave Portsmouth but is closing in on a move to Wigan Athletic.

Which results in us pondering whether Luton were really interested in Whatmough, was he an option?

Or was it some kind of smokescreen thrown up to deflect the attention from who we were really after?

I guess we will never know!
