Luton – Not Bad But Could Have Been Better

We’re now in that, what I call, boring period between last season and the new season beginning.

Just think, we could all be eagerly anticipating the 2022 World Cup starting if it hadn’t been moved, in the calendar, for reasons we’re all perfectly aware of.

But before the 2022/2023 season starts there is the small matter of the smattering of pre-season friendlies to ponder over.

Yesterday, the official site – Click Here – confirmed the current schedule although advised those who visited their page that dates, and kick-off times are subject to change.

The list, as shown below:

• Friday 1st July: Hitchin Town (A) – 7pm
• Saturday 2nd–9th July: Slovenia training camp
• Saturday 16th July: Northampton Town (A) – 1pm
• Tuesday 19th July: Peterborough United (A) – 7.45pm
• Saturday 23rd July: West Ham United (H) – 3pm

Contains just the one game that genuinely gets me excited and that’s the last one, against West Ham United, with David Moyes bringing his Premier League side to Kenilworth Road, although it remains to be seen whether he’ll field his first XI.

The other fixtures contain our familiar trip, up the A505, to Hitchin, along with trips to relatively nearby Peterborough and Northampton.

Deep down I was hoping the Hatters would do a mini-Scandinavian tour, so we could have a few days in Norway / Sweden or Finland, but I guess finances come into it.

But the one thing we all need to take notice of is that the new season starts relatively early, because of the Qatar World Cup, on Saturday 30th July, but our campaign could be subject to change if our opening fixture is selected for live TV coverage.

Remember, keep those eyes peeled.

Pre covid I think we would have I see we are going to Slovakia so I won’t be surprised if they have a behind closed doors arranged. Otherwise it’s a standard preseason schedule.
