Luton – Gaffer’s Views On Burnley Draw

Two games into the new EFL Championship campaign and the Hatters, if you look on the positive side, remain unbeaten.

But, if you look on the negative side you could point out that we’ve yet to register a win after wo draws, 0-0 at home to Birmingham City and 1-1 away to recently relegated Burnley.

Sitting 14th in the Championship table it really is far too early to anticipate how the season will unfold.

But, up at Turf Moor, the Hatters did enough to suggest last seasons’ 6th place could at least be matched.

An early goal, in the 5th minute, from Dan Potts, after Burnley failed to clear a corner, gave Luton a lead that they held until half time, but Burnley levelled matters up with a fine low drive, from outside the area, by Josh Brownhill with Luton’s defence then keeping the hosts at bay until the final whistle.

Talking to The BBC

the gaffer conceded that our hosts had more of the ball, remarking:

“They dominated possession and they will do that in the Championship this year, but I thought we had better situations, especially in the first half, and I’m just disappointed we didn’t take advantage of that.

“It’s a battling performance, I thought we defended wonderfully, the only chances they had were from outside the box.

Indeed, they were, but Nathan was a little rueful when it came to the Burnley equaliser, adding;

“If we’d done the basics right, we wouldn’t have conceded and then it would have been a wonderful win, but it’s a good point.”

It is, a point is something I readily admitted, before the game, I’d be happy with.

But, for the second game running, we never looked sharp enough going forward, something the boss admitted:

“We front-footed right from the off, then got the goal. If we’d just had a little bit more composure, we could have hurt them more.”

At one stage we had the trio of Adebayo, Woodrow and Morris all on, but that winner, or even a decent chance, was not to come.

A work in progress is what I’d call Luton now, hopefully the side will gel a little more in midweek when we welcome Newport to Kenilworth Road for an EFL Cup fixture.
