Luton – Football Set For A Massive Change

Could football be set for something of a revolutionary change over the next twelve months or so?

I am sure many of you can, like myself, remember standing at football, either in the Oak Road, Maple Road, Kenilworth Road, or the Bobbers before it became seated and then holiday chalet lets.

Football was different then; the standing support generated a unique atmosphere as like-minded individuals stood together to cheer the Hatters on while others stood at their favourite spot in the ground game after game.

But the Hillsborough disaster and the subsequent Taylor Report changed all that, with seating becoming the norm.

Well, it seems that could be about to change with The BBC reporting that the UK government could be set to allow pilot schemes with the view to all safe-standing, at football grounds.

However, I should point out that it will not be a return to the terracing we all knew and loved, as spectators will, like they are now, be allocated a standing space on a terrace where seats are fitted by can be lifted-up, or removed, quickly.

I cannot see them randomly allowing the congregation of like-minded individuals, but it is, in my opinion, a start.

If you watch football on the TV, you must have noticed that vast numbers of fans, as the action hots up, rise from their seats to stand, it is only natural.

But would you support the introduction of safe-standing and if the government does give it the thumbs up can you see Luton altering the design of the Power Court development to allow its introduction?

Please feel free to have your say on the subject matter in the comment facility beneath this article.

people should have a choice. i am sure the barriers will be of a much safer design. remember getting squashed against the barriers in the oak road end,not being able to move! will be happier when 20 20 start building. i know its a long drawn out process, but once it starts, will be good. i wonder if they will do a time lapse of the build, would be interesting.better e.mail gary sweet.COYH.
