The penultimate weekend of the regular 2021/2022 season is upon us and still there are a lot of key issues to be decided.
Whilst the title looks to be Fulham’s for the taking, although I’m hoping the West London outfit do not clinch it against us on Monday, the four clubs seeking to participate in the play-offs is still the subject of much debate.
Last night, like many others I suspect, I raised a wry smile when Queens Park Rangers took the lead against Sheffield United. Sadly, that grin didn’t last long with the Yorkshire side, in the end, running out comfortable 3-1 winners.
That result leaves Sheffield United on the dame number of points as Luton and also with the same goal difference.
Today, several other clubs who could overhaul Luton, if we don’t get a point from our last two games, are in action, those clubs are highlighted in bold:
• Blackburn Rovers v Bournemouth
• Coventry City v Huddersfield
• Middlesbrough v Stoke City
• Millwall v Peterborough United
• Nottingham Forest v Swansea City
Sat in my armchair, ready to enjoy an afternoon of sport, I’m hoping that Bournemouth can beat Blackburn, thereby eliminating Blackburn from the play-off fight.
I’d also like Coventry to beat Huddersfield, thereby giving us some leeway and Stoke City to win at Middlesbrough, for the exact same reason.
Millwall, I fear, will be too strong for Peterborough United, with the Posh already relegated from the Championship and I fear Nottingham Forest will be too strong for Swansea, as Steve Cooper’s side close in on that second automatic promotion spot.
But how do you see today’s fixtures going?

Luton – Focussing On The Opposition – Fulham
Forget Nottm Forest and Huddersfield, they’re as good as in the playoffs. Sheff.Utd, Blackburn and Middlesboro are all in the frame still. It’s vital that Blackburn and Middlesboro drop points today, which puts both of them out of the running and we can be either 5th or 6th. depending what Sheff U manage against Fulham.
If things don’t go in our favour today, then a point at Fulham would leave us probably needing another point v Reading. Lose to Fulham and we would definitely need a win v Reading. Squeaky bum time.
Posh are already relegated. Keep up
🙂 Perhaps they’ll give one last hurrah and nick a result!
It will come down to the last day in my opinion – being in the playoffs would be nice but our performance in the P/Os is not good – would rather stay in Championship next season – clear out all the players not needed and strengthen the squad and go up next season as Champions – that would be such a great performance
