With Nathan Jones gone, to Southampton, it is time to start looking at who might be the one to replace him.
At the moment the Hatters are blessed with time as, after the Saturday fixture against Rotherham, United, there is a month-long break for the World Cup.
Here at Vital Luton Town, we expect that the board will have a short-list, but how many candidates are on that list is, at the moment, the big unknown.
But one name that has surfaces as a possible candidate, in several media sources, including Luton Today is Neil Critchley.
But what do we know about Critchley?
At 44-years-of-age, Critchley is currently unemployed after Steven Gerrard’s regime, at Aston Villa, was axed.
Earlier in his coaching / managerial career, he was in charge of the Liverpool U18’s before being appointed head coach at Blackpool.
At Bloomfield Road he enjoyed relative success achieving promotion to the Championship, albeit via the play-offs, before, in Blackpool’s first season back in the Championship, guiding them to a respectable 16th place on a limited budget.
Critchley severed his connections with Blackpool, in June 2022, when he joined steven Gerrard, at Aston Villa, as assistant head coach.
Clearly, Critchley has the background to be considered a candidate, but my one concern is whether his loyalty would be tested if / when Steven Gerrard gets another top post and wants Neil to be part of his backroom staff.
But what are your feelings on Critchley succeeding Nathan Jones?

it will be dificult to replace nj. he built the team slowly, like he was playing chess. thinking of present team, but then bringing players for the future. he may not have been everyones favourite, but he is a very clever guy. whoever gets the job, he has got some big shoes to step into. also he needs good assistants. will be an interesting appointment.COYH
Morning mh, loads of names being thrown about for the job. I’ve heard things are well advanced on narrowing candidates down. An don’t be surprised if someone not being touted about gets the job.
loads of names, plenty of scope for me in the coming days then 🙂
Morning, I think everyone and their dog is being linked to the job. I just hope that the board gets it right.Dont want a Graham Jones situation again
The more the merrier, last time the Board recruited they had blinkers on. For some reason Graeme Jones was their man no matter what. Take your time and get it right. COYH
Any takers next manager could be another nj. Maybe a young assistant manager from a prm club or coach?
