Sat in the pub last night, whiling away the time, without Monday Night Football to entertain us, myself and a group of friends got into a healthy debate.
Of course, it revolved around our beloved football club, Luton Town, and the subject of managers.
We were trying to establish, as a group, as to who the greatest manager the club has had, bearing in mind our age group covered the late sixties to the present day.
To say the discussion got a little heated was an understatement.
But it was interesting to hear everybody’s’ views and opinions.
Several incumbents of the managerial hot seat were discussed but none of us could agree on who deserved the ultimate accolade.
But before the cries of ‘gentlemen time please’ could echo around the sparsely occupied public house, we had narrowed it down to four candidates and it was agreed that I would put it to the poll:
Luton's Greatest Manager (1968-2021) Is?
David Pleat
Ray Harford
Alec Stock
John Still
Now I should point out that the four choices are not solely picked by me, I selected who I believed was our greatest ever manager and each of my drinking companions selected theirs, to make up the four.
I am sure several of you would totally disagree with the selections and would nominate their own, please, if that is the case, do so in the comment facility beneath this article.

Can’t believe the man who took us to our best ever position. In div 1. Isn’t there 🤔🤔🤔
The Legend that is John Moore was discussed Chris. My plan is to see who tops the current poll then match them against anyone else’s suggestion, trying to cover what is a poor period when the second international break is upon us. My personal choice, for the poll, was David Pleat!
Mine was Alec stock. A genius at finding gems from cast offs. Big mac just one of them.
Hi MD , that’s a hard one to pick out just one , Alec stock just before my time but my dad spoke about him well , ray Hartford took us to that great cup final , but I was not a great fan of his , sir John still love that man and lwhat he started for us as a club will always be a favourite of mine but I think it’s got to be David pleat for getting us up and keeping us there and it all goes back to money but if he had real money who knows what he could have done. Someone else to throw in the hat is happy Harry what a manger he was . Coyh
Harry Happy Haslam what a character he was 🙂
john still helped to turn this club from despair of conference football to where we are now. but nathan jones has added the va-va-voom this club needed,so he has my vote.alec stock always came across as snobby matter of fact type of guy,but he did bring my old fave, supermac to luton. think he cost £17.500 from fulham. happy days.COYH.
