Luton Boss On Best Ever Team Performance

Six games without a win is not an experience I would like to be put through again, it cuts through to the soul.

I will readily admit, like I am sure many others would do also, that never in my wildest dreams did I expect Luton Town to beat high flying Coventry City so emphatically.

Okay, I had hoped we could withstand the pressure and sneak a narrow win but to win 5-0, no, never.

The win was received in ecstatic fashion by the supporters, and such was the noise, I am told it could be heard up Round Green way.

Personally, I am hoping it is the start of something exciting, a charge up the Championship table that can be maintained, with the Hatters fearing no one, especially when it comes to visiting Kenilworth Road.

But what did Nathan Jones think about his side’s performance?

Well, it seems, according to Sky Sports, the gaffer was as pleased as us with our source reporting that Nathan had remarked:

“We asked them to score the first goal, keep a clean sheet and win and I’d have taken any two of those. It was a complete performance, it’s my best performance as Luton manager by a mile as I know we scored eights and sevens and five away from home at certain places, but this is in the Championship against a very good side, a side who is third and they could have gone top tonight.”

Indeed, they could have, but Luton never let them settle and imposed their own game on the Sky Blues.

Continuing, the boss further added,

“So that’s the magnitude of the performance as from start to finish I thought we were outstanding. It should have been more, we had shots on targets, balls flashing across the box, the control we had in the game. They had one chance first half which hit the side-netting and this is a side that scores goals, a side that’s third in the league, a side that has run over teams, and they are a good side. Mark has done a great job here, but that shows the magnitude of the performance.”

Praise for the side indeed but the most important thing is that we do not rest on our laurels, now is the time to push on, get some points on the board and consolidate our place in the upper echelons of the Championship table.
