Luton – An Epic Journey And A Logistical Nightmare

|

A little something, we missed, last weekend, deserves a mention before it drops over the horizon.

Last Saturday, 04-September-2021, was the 116th anniversary of the Hatters first-ever game at Kenilworth Road after they had vacated their previous ground cited in Dunstable Road.

Our opponents on 04-Septmber-1905, for that first match, were Plymouth Argyle.

Last night, as I tried desperately to get back to sleep, I could not help but think about that game, don’t ask me why, anyone of my age will know that strange thoughts emerge from the deepest of places at the weirdest of times.

But I could not help thinking about our opponents for that game, Plymouth Argyle.

Just how long would it have taken the Plymouth entourage to make the journey from their neck of the woods to Bedfordshire?

And just as importantly, how long would the round trip have taken?

I imagine it would have been a feat of logistical genius to make sure everything ran to plan.
