I Do Not Believe This Striker Will Sign For Luton

Glancing through the sources available to us, speculation relating to possible Luton transfer activity is scarce.

Indeed, at the moment, all I can find is a piece of transfer tittle-tattle relating to the out of contract AFC Wimbledon striker, Joe Pigott.

Now regular visitors to Vital Luton Town will recall we have covered the possibility of Joe returning to Kenilworth Road, with the latest offering being – luton-linked-with-a-return-of-someone-we-all-know.

However, with Nathan Jones already having two powerful strikers at his disposal, in the shape of Elijah Adebayo and Cameron Jerome, I am not sure, even though he netted 22 goals in 52 appearances for Wimbledon, whether Pigott is the kind of striker Luton are looking for.

Therefore, I must admit I would not be that surprised if he were to sign for one of our reputed rivals when it comes to his signature.

Perhaps, with Portsmouth, Bristol City and Sunderland said to be interested, it might be the latter who emerge victorious.

The Portsmouth News, probably accepting Pigott will not sign for Portsmouth, carries some interesting comments from the former Sunderland striker, Kevin Phillips, who believes Pigott might be tempted to Wearside by the possibility of becoming a cult hero, or as Kevin puts it:

“His stats speak for themselves. A record of nearly one in two is a great strike rate.

“My only worry is, coming from Wimbledon, can he handle the pressure of playing for Sunderland.

“No disrespect to Wimbledon but Sunderland is a big step up.

“I haven’t seen too much of Pigott but the lad can score goals, that is clear.

“If Lee Johnson can get Pigott in and he scores a lot of goals for Sunderland he will be a hero straight away.”

But one question Pigott might be asking himself is whether he fancies another season in League One or whether he feels he can do a job for a Championship side?

As I said earlier, I do not think he will become a Luton player again, but you just never know in this game, do you?

Hi mh, your right in thinking he’s not for us. If my information is correct we are looking elsewhere and for something different. We. Have Jerome filling his role. An again its not someone who has come up before.

  • Chris winter says:

In fact mh I’d go so far as to say we don’t need another striker. If what I saw on Saturday is anything to go by if nj can figure out ways to play we could have multiple ways for strike force to go. More immediately I think its goalkeepers. Personally I saw no reason to release isted an would resign him an continue like last season. Why pay good money for a number 3 keeper. When isted was progressing so well

  • Danny says:

hi Chris, when you say we don’t need another striker are you saying your happy with just Adebayor & Jerome up front or are you including Gomes and possibly Lee & Hylts as well ?

    • Chris winter says:

Hi Danny, from what I saw Saturday gives me the. Belief that depending on tactics, that we could go with any combination of attackers whoever was chosen you didn’t include Clark!! Even Lee with lansbury showed that with a bit of class he will score from the right service.

  • Danny says:

hi Chris, Clark did look like a seasoned striker on Saturday the way he effortlessly stuck the ball in the net but i think his main role next season will be to set up the goals though he does give us a lot of flexibility and options. You can see why the club quickly extended his contract shortly after signing him.
I think Lee does still offer us something with his quick feet and trickery but whether he’d be happy just being an impact sub like Lua Lua & Moncs remains unlikely and i suspect he’ll be off to a League 1 side for regular game time.

For me, i would like to see us bring in another out and out striker and i would be very surprised if we didn’t have a plan B in place should pigott not sign, which wouldn’t be a disaster. I suspect we may have to wait until the Premiership sides have sorted themselves out before we possibly see a youngun join us should that actually turn out to be our plan B route.

Exciting times ahead with Fred, Gomes, Campbell & Adebayo giving us a lot more energy and pace when attacking, roll on August !

Hi Danny, what I saw Saturday was the opportunity for us to go in any formation wanted 4-3-3 with Lee behind a front 2 with lansbury supplying any thing 3-5-2 adebayo an gomes or Jerome 4-2-4 adebayo Jerome cornick Clark. We look hungry an up for it as well. So next Saturday Rochdale sadly behind closed doors let’s see how we do next step up

  • Chris winter says:

Also with regards to Danny’s questions about forwards I think that we may sell 1 or 2 before the start of the season along with some other players so with or without them I think we have so many more options than in the past. An sticking to 2 up front is no longer our only option.

  • Danny says:

it all sounds very positive moving into next season, a full pre-seaon for almost the entire squad will pay dividends in the long run.

Hi Danny, this is only my opinion remember an that’s worthless. I just wonder if nj an mick have the vision to try something different with all these possible options an to go for it

      • Danny says:

lol ……….. as the season progresses and the team starts to pick itself i’m sure we’ll see nj try some new ideas out

  • jimbo says:

so many options to choose from, lots of great players,am licking my lips in anticipation. how did kioso perform, can he be another justin??hope so. COYH AND ITALY.

    • Chris winter says:

Hi jimbo, performed well but we knew he could after his game against utd. But he like everyone else. I have to say every position is up for grabs. I would say nj won’t be able to just play his favourites anymore as everyone seems to be keen to be a part of the team. That for me is a good thing.

  • Alan says:

As myse and Chris said at the time, we were surprised kioso was put out on loan. But now that decision looks to be coming to fruition….

    • Chris winter says:

Hi Alan, honestly mate I have never seen them so up for it. I think all these new faces have shaken up so many of the old guard. That they know they no longer feel safe and realise they have to up their own games now if they want to keep a place in the team. Maybe we should have started it earlier

  • Alan says:

Hi mate, I guess as the last 2 seasons were full of upheaval, NJ and the staff can now push on in the direction they want…..fingers crossed, as it all sounds good….any transfer gossip ? as I’m away at the mo so I’m out of the loop…
