Luton – A Return To The Past

And so, the England bandwagon continues to gather momentum with a semi-final place now in the can.

Last night I, like several million others tuned in to watch England dismantle an extremely poor Ukraine side, 4-0.

In all honesty England, if they had pushed on, could have scored a few more goals and could well have put the fear of God into our semi-final opponents, Denmark.

Indeed, in our pre-match poll, 84% of those that voted predicted an England win.

As is now the norm, I did not bother with the pre-match drivel dished out by Lineker and co and just tuned in to watch the game.

But even then, I found it frustrating, listening to the banal comments of the commentary team and their incessant chit-chat.

In fact, I yearned for a return to the past, to the days when I had one of the very first Sky boxes and it had a function whereby you could just choose to watch the game only with the crowd noises being heard.

I suppose it is too much to ask for something similar to be re-introduced!

if i listen to luton games on 3 counties radio ,i would love to turn off the annoying chit chat that the presenters think is relevant. i have listened to radio cambridge, very professional approach, talking about the game in great detail. maybe 3cr should listen in to cambridge.the t.v. and radio presenters think they are funny,NOT. glad thats off my chest. any news on ruddock from the golf course.

Hi jimbo, no golf course gossip this week, I’m in sunny St ives. Relying on vital luton crew to keep me updated……

I can’t believe a person who can write so ‘eloquently’ would not have considered the option of the mute button?

Just be thankful that it was on BBC, so you didn’t have to suffer the living hell (to such a lover of the English language as yourself) of Lee Dixon

Mute is not an option, I like to hear the crowd and the main commentator. not the plastic hangar on!

Hi mh, while I agree about your comments in general. Can I say that Emma Hayes on itv did impress me giving her thoughts on the reasons why she thought managers were making the substitutions. An why they were doing it. Unlike most male pundits just making the usual banal remarks.

Hi all not being an old bigot, but don’t understand why female so called experts are on mens football when they have their own coverage and programmes on women’s games….also don’t see why we have a commentator, a Co-commentator, a presenter and 3 so called experts ( all ex England that won NOTHING) spouting on about what our current players are doing right or wrong….
