Peering through a hedge isn’t quite my idea of how football should be watched but then again when it’s a behind-closed-doors friendly, with no public admission, some of us had no choice.

Yesterday, down at the Brache, a Luton Town XI entertained a Brentford B side as both clubs looked to fine-tune their squads after a hectic opening weekend of the 2018 / 2019 season.

From what we could see, it was an entertaining affair with the Hatters running out 4-0 winners.

Three of those goals were scored by Jake Jervis with the striker looking to impress Nathan Jones and, possibly, earn a starting place in the side that will take on Sunderland, at Kenilworth Road, this weekend.

Jervis, as Luton slipped to an undeserved opening day defeat away to Portsmouth, only played a cameo role in that fixture but, against Brentford B, looked sharp and ready to go if called upon.

The friendly fixture also saw some other Luton Town first-team squad members get some action with the likes of Sonny Bradley, James Shea, Andrew Shinnie and Luke Gambin all playing the full ninety minutes whilst Jack Stacey, who has been the subject of transfer speculation and who didn’t feature against Portsmouth, was given a sixty-minute run out.
