We’re at the time in the summer transfer window whereby everybody starts to get a little nervous.

With the window set to close, on Thursday, everyone is aware that there will be clubs looking to strengthen their squads whilst they still can.

However, it can leave clubs like ours, at a disadvantage.

Let’s take the case of Jack Stacey.

Already, in this transfer window, we’ve covered how the Championship side, West Bromwich Albion, have expressed more than a passing interest in Jack, however, a deal has yet to be concluded.

On Saturday, away to Portsmouth, Jack only made the bench, was this because:

1 – A deal is impending and the Hatters didn’t want the player to get injured?

Or

2 – Jack’s mind wasn’t 100% focused on the Hatters cause with all the transfer talk buzzing around.

Clearly, the prospect of losing Jack and indeed any others in his squad, is concerning Nathan Jones, with the boss quoted in the local news source, Dunstable Today as having remarked about Jack’s future:

“Well if anyone’s going to buy him they’d better hurry up, as its four days before the window closes.”

Before adding about his squad in general:

“But I can’t wait for the window to be honest with you and these big sides stop messing about. If anyone wants our players, then test us, if they don’t, let’s move on.”

Earlier in the article, I mentioned the word nervous and with good reason.

There’s every possibility that as the transfer window closes, the Hatters will be offered a fee for a member of their squad they can’t turn down but whilst the money is always welcome it leaves little or no time for the club to bring in a replacement.

Let’s hope everything is plain sailing between now and the transfer window slams shut on Thursday.
