Cream of the Crop!

Today, hopefully, heralds the start of a new era.

Following on from the heartache of losing to York City in the Conference Play-Off Final, at Wembley, Hatters supporters will be hoping that a return to pre-season training will herald the start of a promotion winning campaign.

There`s a long slog ahead of us but following the overhaul of the squad that has seen a plethora of players depart and some key, experienced Football League players arrive, we`re optimistic that 2012/2013 will be remembered for all the right reasons.

When the squad reports in this morning, for that first grueling day back; amongst them will be Jake Howells who resisted the lure of a contract in the Championship with Ipswich Town, to sign a new three year deal at Kenilworth Road.

Howells. Talking in the local press about returning to pre-season training and aware that there are several new faces on the scene in Jon Shaw, Scott Rendell, Garry Richards, Danny Spiller and Ronny Henry, compares the first day back as a similar situation to starting a new school, commenting in the local media,

“It`s going to be like I`m in a new school but I can`t wait. We`ve brought in a lot of experienced Football League players which the club hasn`t done for a while. The future looks good for Luton Town.”

“We had a lot of good players last year but we have brought in a lot of brilliant new ones.”

“We have got a lot of winners in our team now, which we haven`t had over the years since I`ve been here.”

“I`ve played in a lot of teams at Luton Town and the squad we`ll have this year will be up there with one of the best. I`m very excited about starting the new season. And I can`t wait.”

Neither can we Jake, I just have this feeling that this crop of players will be the cream of the crop as far as the Conference will be concerned.
