My love of international football, or lack of it, becomes more prevalent at this time of the year.
With the 2020 / 2021 Championship season in full swing, we find everything has been put on hold, for a third time, to accommodate international football.
Frustrating is the perfect word to describe this scenario in my eyes.
But while I have no real love for international football, I do have fond memories of one fixture that took place in 1984.
On 10 February, England travelled to the Parc des Princes to take on France in a full international.
England managed by the legend that is Bobby Robson were keen for an injection of young talent in a side that were preparing for the European Championships.
As a result, I and I expect very Luton Town fan were ecstatic when the starting XI was named and both Brian Stein and Paul Walsh were selected.
Sadly, things did not go well for England on the field of play with France winning, courtesy of two second-half goals from Michel Platini giving the emerging French side the win.
For Paul Walsh, it was the start of an international career that saw the forward win a total of five caps while the unlucky Brian Stein was not selected to play again.
To have one Luton player selected was a treat but to see two selected was like, for a young me, being given the keys to the local sweet shop!
I wonder if, sometime in the future, we will see something similar happen.

Luton Duo Had The Chance To Leave Kenilworth Road But Opted To Stay And Fight For A Starting Place
I remember the late 1950s we had two England Internationals, Ron Bay ham and Syd Owen. Also scandalous that Bob Morton wasn’t given a chance, as a very stylist wing half.
A bit before my time but thanks for the lovely info
When we wore black and white and Blackpool could wear their tangerine at Kenilworth Road.
I remember travelling down to Wembley to see Ricky Hill play on his England home debut against West Germany. Must of been around the same time as Walsh and Stein. Three Luton players in the England squad/team around the same time!!!
